"The Train Passing the Mountain" was composed by musician Phan Lac Hoa after listening to a tragic love story of loss during wartime.
The special love story of the train captain
The song "Train you pass the mountain" is a classic song of Vietnamese revolutionary music . The work was created in 1977, during a business trip of People's Artist Thanh Hoa and her first husband - musician Phan Lac Hoa. At the program "Happy Memories" , People's Artist Thanh Hoa once recalled: At that time, traveling by train was very difficult, every time we left a station, we had to wait 3 or 4 hours to continue. When we reached Hai Van Pass, the train conductor named Quy suddenly blew a very long whistle and stopped the train, then he went to a corner and chatted with musician Phan Lac Hoa.
When the two returned, People's Artist Thanh Hoa saw that their eyes were red. Later, she heard her husband recount: "This is the part where the lover of the train captain Quy once fell, so every time he passed by here, he blew a long whistle and lit incense as a greeting to his deceased lover."

Sympathizing with the train conductor's love, musician Phan Lac Hoa composed the song " Train Anh Qua Nui" as a gift for him. People's Artist Thanh Hoa recalled: "All night long, I only saw my husband sitting in a corner with his guitar." Until 3 a.m., musician Phan Lac Hoa woke Thanh Hoa up to play the song to see if the song's melody was "listenable." By 8 a.m. the next morning, the song was officially completed.
People's Artist Thanh Hoa had to quickly memorize that song so that before arriving in Saigon, she could sing it to the train captain, Mr. Quy. People's Artist Thanh Hoa still remembers clearly: "That day, when we arrived at the waiting area in Cam Giang, everyone gathered in the room and Thanh Hoa sang for everyone to listen. And at that time, I couldn't sing the whole song because my tears kept falling."
Talking to MC Lai Van Sam, People's Artist Thanh Hoa also shared: "Mr. Phan Lac Hoa explained to me that the line "I will climb any mountain in love" appeared in the song because: "I want that even though the train has gone, the echoes of love will still remain, like the whistle I blow to give to my lover".

After People's Artist Thanh Hoa, many young artists have performed the song " Tau anh qua nui" , including Anh Tho, Tan Nhan, and Bui Le Man. When asked about her feelings about this, Thanh Hoa said: "Everyone keeps saying that no one can surpass Thanh Hoa, which makes me sad. A good song, if only one person sings it, the life of the work will be very short and cannot last forever. We have to think "broadly". Each person has their own voice, bringing new colors to the work. I have a thin voice, I sing like no one else, and I am remembered by everyone."
People's Artist Thanh Hoa first recorded " Tau anh qua nui" in 1979, but the 1981 recording at Voice of Vietnam Radio became a classic. Nearly 50 years after its release, the work still resonates on many large and small stages. The author of the song - musician Phan Lac Hoa passed away in 1982, at the age of 35. During more than 10 years of artistic activities, besides the song "Tau anh qua nui", he was also famous for the work " Tinh yeu ben dong song quan ho".
