"At night, sitting with the lamp lit, recalling old stories. Mother came back and stood in the rain. Covering her sleeping children. Watching every step of the enemy. Mother sat in the rain...", the song "Legend of Mother" by the late musician Trinh Cong Son, sung by Moc An, moved listeners in the recent program "Stories from Songs". The immortal song, sung by the young singer, touched the hearts of viewers, vividly and proudly portraying the portrait of a heroic Vietnamese Mother through music . The program also had an exchange and sharing session with Major General, writer Khong Minh Du, a veteran who experienced the years of war. He recounted touching memories of Vietnamese mothers amidst bombs and bullets. The audience also got to watch a special reportage about the journey of female artist Dang Ai Viet on an old motorbike, across the country to find and paint portraits of heroic Vietnamese Mothers. To date, more than 3,000 portraits have been painted with gratitude.
It can be said that through the broadcast episodes, "Stories from Songs" has helped the audience understand more about the context and value of traditional revolutionary songs that last forever. As in the episode introducing the song "Nguoi ve tham que" by musician Thuan Yen, besides the smooth melody and familiar images in the MV performed by singer Thanh Le, the audience also understood more about the proud event of Nghe An , when Uncle Ho visited his hometown in 1957 after many years away. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quang Hong, Faculty of History, School of Education - Vinh University, talked about the context of the song's composition and the historical significance of Uncle Ho's visit to his hometown that day.
There are songs that not only have beautiful melodies and lyrics but also contain many beautiful stories. The song "Love you" is such a story. In 1962, the soldier and poet Ngoc Son was on duty at the Gia Lai Front when he received a letter from his wife sent from Hanoi . The letter had a passage: "If only we had a child soon, keeping for each other a sacred keepsake of love, then no matter how long I am apart, where I am, I will be happy...". From that overflowing emotion, the poet Ngoc Son wrote the poem "Love you", published in the Van Nghe newspaper and then, musician Huy Du composed the music into a song for life: "When the leaf leaves the branch. The leaf is no longer green. But why are you far from me? Life is still so green. What's the matter, my dear? Love is life...". The song is set to poetry like a heartfelt song of a soldier on the battlefield for his beloved rear, with the ideal that "when the Fatherland needs them, they know how to live apart".
With the songs "I am the driver", "My childhood homeland", "You will come"..., the program "Stories from the songs" also brings such interesting and meaningful stories. The program also has the participation of insiders, historical witnesses, and today's juniors... All of them foster the beauty of music, patriotism, and national pride.
