In recent years, the image of police officers and soldiers working with local people to dismantle temporary houses and build new homes for the needy has become familiar.
Shelter for the poor
The removal of temporary and dilapidated houses not only helps people escape from makeshift living conditions, but also contributes to strengthening trust and creating a strong bond between the police force and the people. Thereby, the people's security posture is firmly built right from the grassroots.
In a low house with a leaky tin roof, Mr. K'Dot (a Ma ethnic, residing in the old town of Dinh Quan, now Dinh Quan commune) has lived quietly for many years. Without a wife, children, or relatives, he curls up every day in a termite-infested wooden bed, next to a few old clothes. His house was built about 40 years ago, and now every rainy season, water floods the ground.
Knowing Mr. K'Dot's situation, the Department of Internal Security, Provincial Police mobilized donors to support 60 million VND, helping him have a more spacious and cozy place to live. For Mr. K'Dot, it was not just a roof but a great comfort.
In Xuan Truong commune, old Xuan Loc district, now Xuan Loc commune, the situation of Mrs. Thi He (64 years old) makes anyone who witnesses it feel sad. In a house with degraded walls and a dirt floor, she lives with her daughter and her husband. Mrs. He said that the whole family works for hire, with an unstable income, just enough for daily meals, so they cannot afford to renovate the house. In that house, apart from a bed covered with thin cloth and a few household items, there is almost nothing of value left.
Similarly, Mr. Van Thanh (51 years old, Trung Son hamlet, Xuan Loc commune) lives alone in a dilapidated house of less than 70 square meters. The old corrugated iron roof leaks rainwater every time there is a storm. In Mr. Thanh's house, there is only an electric kettle, a wood stove and a few simple items. There are not even any windows in the house, which are covered by an old curtain.
Sympathizing with the difficult circumstances of Mrs. He and Mr. Thanh, the Youth Union of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (PA05) of the Provincial Police Department donated 80 million VND to 2 households (40 million VND each) to repair their houses. This is part of the response to the Movement to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses launched by the Central Government.
From a heart of kindness, new houses have been built. Mrs. He’s house was solidly built, with a tiled floor and a sturdy roof, helping her family live in peace. Mr. Thanh’s house was also repaired, the roof reinforced, and the foundation built, ensuring a safe and spacious place to live.
Love between people
According to the Provincial Police, in recent times, the police force has actively implemented many practical programs, including the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses. Not only supporting housing, the Provincial Police also coordinated to implement many other social security activities such as: free medical examination and medicine; giving gifts to poor students; propagating crime prevention and control, fire prevention and fighting in residential areas... These are small actions but contain great value, affirming the role of the police as a force where people need, there is the police.
At the meeting of the Steering Committee to assess the situation and results of the implementation of the Program to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses and the tasks for the coming time, recently, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Head of the Central Steering Committee to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide, stated that completing the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in 2025 is a very meaningful but also very heavy task; requiring the participation with high determination of the entire political system, business community and people nationwide. The Prime Minister requested that localities that have completed the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses continue to review, and localities that still have temporary and dilapidated houses speed up the progress to complete before October 31, 2025.
According to the provincial police, eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is a humane and practical task, contributing to helping people stabilize their lives, thereby feeling secure in their work and developing the economy . This is also a way for the police force to be closer to the people, understand the people better, and work with the people to maintain security and order at the grassroots level.
As one of the enthusiastic benefactors supporting the mass mobilization campaigns and participating in the Program to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses of the police force, Ms. Tran Thi Xuyen (founder of Chipchip Luxury system, Bien Hoa ward) said that when she witnessed the dilapidated roofs and people living in poor conditions, she could not help but feel choked up. Therefore, she felt very honored to accompany the provincial police force to contribute to repairing the degraded houses for households in difficult circumstances in the province.
“For me, charity is not only about giving material things, but also about giving faith, sharing and hope. I always believe that each completed house is a joy, a motivation for the poor to rise up. I hope I can continue to accompany and help more situations, helping them overcome difficulties” - Ms. Xuyen shared.
With the spirit of serving the people, the police force not only maintains peace in life, but also accompanies the government, organizations and kind-hearted individuals to join hands to build solid homes, helping the poor settle down. Each house repaired, each wall rebuilt is a hope lit up in the midst of a life full of difficulties. This is also a vivid proof of the image of a police officer who is not only brave on the front line, but also warm and affectionate in the hearts of the people...
