Previously, from May 6, this pontoon bridge was temporarily suspended for vehicles with a total load of over 30 tons. Vehicles with a total load of under 30 tons will travel in one direction to carry out technical inspection and repair work, ensuring traffic safety and operational capacity during the upcoming rainy season. The maintenance work was carried out urgently and seriously with the coordination of functional units and was completed on schedule.
The re-operation of the pontoon bridge helps restore the important cargo clearance route between Vietnam and China, facilitating import and export activities of businesses on both sides. The Km3+4 pontoon bridge is the main cargo transit point of the Mong Cai area, directly connecting to the Dongxing Border Control Area (China). For many years, this has been a secondary border gate but has played a very important role in reducing the load on the Mong Cai International Border Gate, especially for agricultural products, aquatic products and consumer goods.
It is known that from the beginning of the year to April 30, at this customs clearance, there were 10,666 vehicles carrying 253,446 tons of import and export goods, an increase of 95% over the same period in 2024. The main goods are fruits, tapioca flour, frozen seafood, dried seeds, shrimp, crab, live fish and miscellaneous goods.
On the morning of May 19, many trucks carrying goods began to line up across the pontoon bridge, recording an urgent and bustling atmosphere at the border gate area. Representatives of import-export enterprises expressed their excitement when customs clearance activities were restored, helping to maintain the supply chain of goods and reduce storage costs.
Authorities ensure that customs clearance takes place smoothly and safely, in compliance with regulations on quarantine, goods inspection and border security.
The resumption of the Hai Yen Km3+4 pontoon bridge not only contributes to promoting trade between the two countries but also demonstrates the proactive and flexible management of the local government, promptly meeting the needs of the business community in the context of economic recovery after the pandemic and global trade fluctuations.
