Overseas Vietnamese player returns to U22 Vietnam, Dinh Bac will not play in the match against Laos

Preparing for SEA Games 33, Coach Kim Sang Sik called up the U22 Vietnam team with 28 players, notably calling back overseas Vietnamese player Tran Thanh Trung.

In the list of U22 Vietnam just announced by coach Kim Sang Sik, most of the players who just attended Panda Cup 2025 in China are present, including goalkeeper Trung Kien, Anh Quan, Hieu Minh, Ly Duc, Quang Kiet, Van Thuan, Thai Son, Xuan Bac, Cong Phuong, Khuat Van Khang, Thanh Nhan, Dinh Bac, Vi Hao...

Notably, after midfielder Nguyen Van Truong suffered a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and required surgery, coach Kim Sang Sik called up Vietnamese-American player Tran Thanh Trung from Ninh Binh Club.

Thanh Trung was called up to the U23 team a few times in 2025, but he was not called up to participate in the Panda Cup 2025. Although given the opportunity to return to the U22 Vietnam team, the player born in 2005 had to really try hard to compete for a position.

Also related to the U22 Vietnam personnel, Coach Kim Sang Sik added some factors that have participated in recent training sessions such as Nguyen Le Phat and Nguyen Duc Viet. These are all players who are familiar with the team environment, grasp the tactical requirements and integrate well with the general playing style.

Meanwhile, midfielder Pham Minh Phuc and striker Nguyen Dinh Bac will be absent from the opening match of the SEA Games against U22 Laos. Due to the schedule of CAHN Club in the 2025 Southeast Asian Club Championship, these two players can only join the team on December 4, the same day that U22 Vietnam plays U22 Laos.

According to plan, U22 Vietnam will gather again in Vung Tau on November 23, before moving to Thailand on December 1 to officially enter the SEA Games 33 campaign. In the group stage, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team will play the opening match against U22 Laos on December 4, then face U22 Malaysia on December 11.
