At 10/3 Square, Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province, a "giant" ancient yellow apricot tree appeared, attracting people's attention. This ancient tree blooming flowers to announce the coming of spring is estimated to be about 100 years old, and is the center of attraction for visitors at the At Ty Spring Flower Market 2025.
The owner of this "giant" apricot tree is Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung, Director of Green Trees - Wooden House Company 6789, headquartered in Tan Hoa ward, Buon Ma Thuot city (Dak Lak province).
Amidst a "forest of ornamental trees for Tet", stands out a giant yellow apricot tree, standing firmly in the middle of 10/3 Square, Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province.
According to Mr. Hung, to bring this Tet tree to the public, the unit had to overcome many challenges and difficulties.
Talking to a reporter from Dan Viet Newspaper, Mr. Le Tai (shareholder of the company) said the origin of this "giant" apricot tree is also very interesting.
According to local people, this beautiful ancient mai tree was planted at a church in Cu Kuin district more than 50 years ago.
Later, during the garden renovation process, this ancient tree was moved to a local resident's house to be planted.
The giant, hundreds of years old yellow apricot tree blooming brilliantly on the occasion of Tet 2024 not only satisfied the eyes of visitors but this ancient tree also became "famous" on social networks and in the press.
Although, information about this "giant" apricot tree was revealed to Mr. Tai's company by bonsai lovers 3-4 years ago.
However, Mr. Tai's company sent people to find the owner of this ancient tree to negotiate to buy it back many times but there was no transaction.
Thus, after sending different people to "negotiate and bargain" five or seven times, the transaction to buy and sell this ancient yellow apricot tree with a dragon shape was not successful.
It was not until December 2024 that the owner of the ancient apricot tree unexpectedly agreed to sell. The process of exploiting this "giant" apricot tree was very difficult.
The company had to mobilize more than 10 workers to work continuously for more than a week. At the same time, the cost to dig and transport this ancient yellow apricot tree was up to more than 20 million VND.
According to many "connoisseurs" in the Tet apricot tree playing world, the value of the "giant" apricot tree lies not only in its age but also in its natural beauty.
It took more than a week, with many people and machines, to bring this hundred-year-old yellow apricot tree to the At Ty Spring Flower Market in Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province.
"Because the "giant" apricot tree is located on a rocky outcrop, the excavation work required both digging the soil and chiseling the rock so as not to damage the roots.
After being lifted from its original position, the apricot tree was measured to have a "ring" (circumference of the base) of 120cm, a height of 7m, and a canopy width of nearly 10m.
To avoid damage during transportation, I wrapped this ancient apricot tree with elastic bands, cloth, cotton blankets, and nets," said Mr. Tai.
With the "giant" size of an ancient tree, to bring the apricot tree to Buon Ma Thuot City, Mr. Tai's group had to ask permission to remove two village gates in Cu Kuin district to be able to move the tree to Highway 27.
Many people were amazed by the rare beauty of the "giant" yellow apricot tree, which is said to be over 100 years old. In order to move this ancient apricot tree out of the village (where the previous owner of the apricot tree lived), the business that bought it had to ask permission to dismantle two village gates to let the "apricot tree pass through".
This "giant" apricot tree, about 100 years old, attracts attention not only because of its impressive size but also because of its natural beauty, without any human intervention or shaping.
In Dak Lak, it is rare for a mai tree to surpass the "ring" mark of 100. We set the selling price of this mai tree at 2.9 billion VND," Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung shared.
Mr. Hung added that, in addition to the "giant" apricot tree above, at the Spring Flower Market At Ty 2025 Buon Ma Thuot City, Mr. Hung also brought to the spring flower festival more than 25 other apricot trees, including a long-shaped apricot tree with 8-12 petals, purchased from a resident of Binh Thuan province.
This apricot tree, after more than 40 years of care and shaping, is now for sale for 500 million VND.
In addition to the "giant" yellow apricot tree, 3 months ago, Mr. Hung also bought a dragon-shaped apricot tree in Binh Thuan province.
At 10/3 Square, where the At Ty Spring Flower Market 2025 takes place, the ancient apricot tree has become a highlight attracting hundreds of visitors. Mr. Nguyen Duc Tri, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, shared: "The apricot trees here are truly beautiful, with natural beauty but still full of art. If they are brought to participate in the bonsai competition in Ho Chi Minh City, I believe they will fascinate anyone who loves bonsai."
Mr. Nguyen Duc Tri, in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City (the person taking the photo) was very excited to admire the "giant" yellow apricot tree in Buon Ma Thuot.
Sharing the same feeling, Mr. Tran Van Hoai, in Khanh Xuan ward, Buon Ma Thuot city, could not hide his joy when sharing: "This "giant" apricot tree is a rare treasure of Dak Lak land. The tree trunk is rough, the canopy is wide, bearing ancient beauty and traces of time. This is not only an apricot tree but also a witness to history."
In addition to the "giant" yellow apricot tree, a bonsai yellow apricot pot also attracted a lot of interest from people asking to buy at the At Ty Spring Flower Market in Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province.
The Spring Flower Market of At Ty City will take place from January 13, 2025 (December 14 of the Lunar calendar) to before 12:00 on January 28, 2024 (December 29 of the Lunar calendar).
Along with that, Buon Ma Thuot City People's Committee will coordinate with Dak Lak Literature and Arts Association to arrange a space for calligraphy, traditional arts and display art activities to promote Buon Ma Thuot City.
The Spring Flower Market is organized annually by Buon Ma Thuot City, a traditional activity of the people every time Tet comes, Spring comes. This is also an opportunity for exchange between gardeners and artisans in the country, a place to gather and promote products, artifacts of the flower industry, ornamental plants and traditional arts to integrate and develop.
Through organizing the Spring Flower Market, we aim to create a vibrant and exciting atmosphere to serve the people of all ethnic groups in the area to celebrate Tet, welcome the spring of At Ty, and attract tourists .
