By April 30, 2025, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, Chau Thanh district completed the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for policy households and poor households.

Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Thanh, leaders of Chau Thanh district and sponsors took souvenir photos at the house handover ceremony for poor households in the resettlement area of Dong Khoi commune.

Immediately after receiving the direction of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee, with high political determination, Chau Thanh district established a District Steering Committee with the District Party Committee Secretary as Head and the District People's Committee Chairman as Deputy Head. At the same time, 15 Commune-level Steering Committees were also established in 15 communes and towns in the district.

After coming into operation, the District Steering Committee held a meeting to agree on the implementation plan; at the same time, organized the public announcement of the list of beneficiaries supported to build and repair solidarity houses and gratitude houses at the headquarters of the People's Committees of communes, hamlets and neighborhoods.

Through the 2025 review, the whole district still has 240 households living in temporary, dilapidated, unsafe houses that do not meet basic living needs; of which, 154 households need to rebuild and 86 households need to repair.

Mr. Vo Duc Trong - Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee and leaders of Chau Thanh district presented flowers to the sponsoring unit.

In the first phase, the district organized the construction and handover of 58 solidarity houses to the people before the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025. Of these, 43 houses were sponsored by the province to build and repair by DONACOOP Agricultural Service Cooperative (Dong Nai); the remaining 15 houses were sponsored by the locality to mobilize benefactors and philanthropists inside and outside the province to contribute support before the project was officially implemented.

With the motto of implementing the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses must be creative, flexible, and highly responsible, the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in Chau Thanh District has directed agencies and units to review and correctly assess the current situation of each family and subject, focusing on removing difficulties and obstacles, understanding the needs and wishes of each household so that each solidarity house awarded best meets the needs of the beneficiary.

At the same time, discuss and work with construction contractors to follow the province's design drawings, but with adjustments suitable to the conditions of each family, to best serve the poor, and effectively implement the support program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the locality.

In phase 2 (after Tet), the district organized the construction of 77 new solidarity houses for the people, of which 52 households registered to be concentrated in resettlement areas such as: Dong Khoi area with 21 households; Tri Binh area with 15 households; Thanh Long area with 7 households and Hoa Hoi area with 9 households. The remaining 15 households had land donated by relatives to build houses.

Of the total 77 houses in the second phase, the district has mobilized sponsors to support the construction of 10 houses. In addition, in resettlement areas, the district has mobilized forces to support families and construction units with a total of 751 working days, equivalent to 226 million VND in cash, with support contents such as: sanding the foundation, dismantling old houses, clearing the site, arranging temporary accommodation... The total amount of cement supported is 18,500 bags (13,500 bags for construction; 5,000 bags for repair).

Mr. Doan Trung Kien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Mr. Truong Van Hoan - Secretary of Chau Thanh District Party Committee presented the decision to hand over houses and Uncle Ho's photos to households receiving houses at the resettlement area of Thanh Long commune.

Regarding the construction of gratitude houses for families with preferential policies, after reviewing, the district has built 19 new houses for families with preferential policies with a total amount of more than 3 billion VND. Of which, 10 households have land; 2 households have land donated by relatives and 7 households have registered to live in resettlement areas in Dong Khoi, Thanh Long and Tri Binh. The district also repaired 36 gratitude houses with a total amount of nearly 2.3 billion VND.

In addition, through the review of poor households in 2024, it was discovered that outside the Project to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses, 30 new houses need to be built and 2 houses need to be repaired. Chau Thanh district has mobilized social funding from sponsors to build and repair 32 solidarity houses to complete the overall progress before April 30, 2025 with an implementation cost of more than 2.7 billion VND.

The total cost of the Project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the district through two implementation phases is over 19 billion VND. In addition to receiving new houses, the households were also presented with 156 televisions by the Provincial, District and Commune Fund for the Poor Mobilization Committees, each worth nearly 3 million VND.

District leaders and local authorities took souvenir photos at the ceremony of handing over gratitude houses to policy families.

Supporting the construction of houses for policy families, poor households, and near-poor households is an especially important act, demonstrating the responsibility and morality of "Repaying gratitude"; "Love others as you love yourself", leaving no one behind. Therefore, this is a correct policy, with profound humanistic meaning, highly practical, in line with the Party's will and the people's heart, practically helping policy families and poor households have the conditions to "settle down" and "make a living".

With high determination and achieved results, Chau Thanh district has completed the goal of completely eliminating temporary houses in the shortest time. Each newly completed house is an important step in the journey of sustainable poverty reduction, together rising up from poverty, stabilizing life and building an increasingly developed homeland.
