Fire and explosion of giant hot air balloon in Tuyen Quang injures 5 people

On the evening of April 29, the leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tuyen Quang province said that a hot air balloon fire had just occurred in the area, causing 5 people to be burned.

According to the leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tuyen Quang province, at around 7:00 p.m. on April 29, a Japanese pilot was checking a hot air balloon at Nguyen Tat Thanh Square (Tuyen Quang city, Tuyen Quang province) when an accident occurred.

Specifically, the pilot was pumping gas to inflate the balloon when a strong wind blew, the fire turned back towards the pilot, causing burns. The pilot was unable to close the gas valve in time, causing the balloon to catch fire and explode.

At this time, 4 people from the same crew who rushed to help put out the fire were also burned by the hot air. The incident left 5 people injured, who were taken to the hospital for examination and treatment immediately afterwards.

The leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tuyen Quang province said that at the time of the incident, the hot air balloon was not carrying passengers but was only on display for people to admire. The fire did not injure anyone.

"Immediately after the incident, the fire police force was present to put out the fire," said the leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tuyen Quang province.

Previously, on April 28, the People's Committee of Tuyen Quang province opened the 2nd international hot air balloon festival in 2023. The festival has more than 20 hot air balloons from many countries and territories participating, controlled by international pilots from France, Spain, the Netherlands, Russia, Slovakia, India, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam.
