Over the weekend, a Ferrari F50 supercar surpassed its pre-auction estimate of $6.5 to $7.5 million, reaching a price of $9.245 million (about more than 230 billion VND). That's about $4 million more than most other F50s sold over the past few years, and that's largely due to the rarity of this particular model.
The F50 was commissioned new by fashion icon Ralph Lauren, who also owns one of the most valuable Ferrari collections in the world. This particular car is one of only 55 built to US specifications and is one of only two painted in Giallo Modena from the factory. While Lauren rarely parted with one of his prized cars, he did sell this ultra-rare Ferrari F50 supercar in 2003.
It eventually found its way into the garage of a couple in Sterling, Virginia, who have kept it ever since before recently putting it up for auction, interestingly, the car has been mostly indoors, rarely seen on the road since 2009. In preparation for sale, the car was serviced at Ferrari Central Florida in late 2024, with a new fuel tank, tires, and brakes installed. The car is being sold with less than 5,400 miles (about 8,690 km). Not long ago, the F50 wasn’t as highly regarded as its predecessor, the F40, or even its successor, the Enzo. However, demand for original, low-mileage F50s has skyrocketed in recent years, pushing prices to unprecedented highs.
Perhaps this is not surprising, as the F50 uses a naturally aspirated V12 engine taken from Formula 1, making it unique. Before this weekend's auction, the most expensive F50 ever sold at auction fetched $5.532 million in February 2025. The car had only driven 1,351 miles (2,174 km) before changing hands.
