Da Deo Pass - Cha Noi Valley - witness to history
At the intersection not far from Da Deo Pass is the boundary dividing the two halves of the legendary East - West Truong Son road during the resistance war against America. Stopping here, visitors seem to recall memories of a time of resistance.
During the war, this pass never had a single peaceful day, but had to endure day and night fierce bombardments from American planes and continuous bombardments along the entire pass for more than ten kilometers. Witnesses at that time recounted that the surrounding landscape was torn apart, shattered, and devastated, leaving only bare rocks.
Despite having to endure many fierce raids, Da Deo Pass still stands tall and majestic in the middle of the vast mountains as a challenge to the enemy. This pass also marks the footsteps of the 24th Engineer Battalion, who are on duty day and night. Despite the fierce rain of bombs, they still steadfastly wait for the right moment to rush out to repair the road surface and defuse unexploded bombs.
On December 31, 1973, the 24th Engineer Battalion was awarded the noble title of Hero of the Armed Forces by the State for their brave actions. On the top of the pass, there is still a monolithic stone stele recording the important milestones of the war as well as the achievements of the soldiers, male and female youth volunteers on this dangerous pass.
