The government is determined to find solutions to the problem of urban congestion and flooding.

(Dan Tri) - Referring to long-standing challenges such as urban flooding, environmental pollution, and traffic congestion, the First Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that once the problem is identified, the Government will be determined to solve it.

Chairing the press conference of the 1st Government Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term on the afternoon of October 13, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh gave a general assessment of the outstanding results and impressions of this congress.

The first impression the Deputy Prime Minister shared was that in a harsh condition with many unprecedented challenges from epidemics, natural disasters, and instability from the world situation, Vietnam still grew and stabilized its macro -economy .

“This is the most outstanding and special achievement and this is recognized by the world , not just by our assessment,” said the Permanent Deputy Prime Minister.

The second breakthrough achievement, according to him, is the success in protecting the people, helping the people, serving the people and improving the people's lives. Typical examples include protecting people from the Covid-19 pandemic through a free vaccination campaign; supporting and rescuing people in storms, floods, natural disasters, or spending more than 1.1 million billion VND (17% of the budget) on social security, hunger eradication and poverty reduction...

Third, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the success of the revolution in organizing and rearranging the country, building a two-level local government. “This revolution is a preparation step for us to enter a new era with a streamlined apparatus, with new development space, with a selected team,” according to the Deputy Prime Minister.

He shared that during this revolution, many ministries and staff had to "have many sleepless nights" to complete on time the requirements set by the Party and the Politburo.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Vietnam's economic scale has increased from 37th to 32nd in the world and 4th in ASEAN. In terms of happiness index, Vietnam has increased 37 places, from 83rd at the beginning of the term to 46th at the end of the term.

In terms of trade scale, Vietnam is among the top 20 economies in the world with nearly 850 billion USD in import and export a year...

The Permanent Deputy Prime Minister also mentioned the highlight when the Government Party Congress passed a resolution defining directions, goals, targets, and breakthrough solutions.

In particular, the resolution sets a target with strong aspirations of 10% growth and GDP per capita reaching more than 8,000 USD by the end of the term.

“This is a huge challenge for the Government because the targets are very ambitious. We clearly see the path to take, the work to do and can envision that by the end of the term the country will have the appearance, position and stature of a modern industrial country with an upper middle income and growth and an average income per capita of over 8,000 USD,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.

In addition, the Congress also seriously pointed out the shortcomings, limitations, and challenges that must be faced, as General Secretary To Lam mentioned. These are challenges that have been going on for many years, and that people have been waiting for solutions, such as flooding in urban areas, environmental pollution, traffic congestion, salinity, or the story of dikes in the North.

Reiterating the General Secretary's request to resolve these issues during his term, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that once the problems were identified and solutions were found, the Government was determined to find solutions and would resolve these problems.

"Entering the new era, we set very high goals: high growth, high income, many projects to do. The luggage we bring into the next term is very high determination, aspiration for development, an innovative mindset from legal thinking, capital mobilization thinking, to the tasks that need to be done are all very clear," the Deputy Prime Minister shared.

The important issue now, according to him, is to focus on organizational structure and people; building a team that is both red and professional, dares to think and act, has courage and dares to take responsibility.
