These days, in the rice fields in Tuyen Hoa district, farmers are actively visiting the fields and spraying pesticides to prevent pests and diseases. Mr. Tran Van Can, Director of Tuyen Hoa District Agricultural Service Center, said: In this winter-spring crop, the district planted 1,433 hectares of rice. Up to this point, the rice is in the panicle formation stage, however, due to unfavorable weather, many rice areas are damaged by pests and diseases. Notably, in the district, 420 hectares of rice have dry leaf tips, concentrated in the communes of Mai Hoa, Phong Hoa, Duc Hoa, Thach Hoa, Dong Hoa, Tien Hoa, Chau Hoa, Cao Quang, Son Hoa, Kim Hoa... The disease rate is 30-40%, in some places it is 60-80%. In addition, more than 93 hectares of rice are affected by rice blast disease.
For leaf tip blight, the district has instructed people to mix 10ml of Tilsupe 300EC with 20 liters of water, spray 2 bottles/sao ( 500m2 ) to prevent and control the disease, limiting widespread spread. In fields with blast disease, stop applying growth stimulants and keep enough water in the fields; use one of the drugs with specific active ingredients, such as: Tricyclazole, Isoprothiolane, Fenoxanil... to spray for prevention. People need to spray the drug evenly on the leaf surface. Fields with severe disease must be sprayed 2-3 times, each time 5-7 days apart; spraying should be done early in the morning or in the cool afternoon for high efficiency.
Mr. Tran Van Thiet, Mai Hoa commune said: “My family has 4 sao of rice. Recently, I don’t know if it is due to the weather or some other reason, but the rice leaves in the whole area have turned yellow. Many areas that are not sprayed with pesticides in time will have dry leaf tips. We have been instructed to spray pesticides to prevent the disease. Hopefully, the rice will be cured and the yield will not be greatly affected when harvested.”
In Quang Trach district, in the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, the whole district has planted 3,394 hectares of rice. Currently, early and main-season rice are in the panicle-holding and flowering stages, while late rice is forming panicles, about 40 hectares have flowered in the communes of Lien Truong, Phu Canh, Quang Luu... Many winter-spring rice areas in the district are also affected by bacterial stripe disease (52 hectares), rice blast (30 hectares), leaf rollers (27 hectares)... In addition, nearly 50 hectares have been damaged by rats. Therefore, farmers are increasing spraying of pesticides.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Truong, Quang Phuong commune, said that his family has 4 sao of rice, 20 days ago, many areas of rice had all their leaves burned. At that time, the rice was still in the tillering stage, so the family cut off the leaf tips in areas that were severely affected so that the rice could grow new leaves. Currently, the rice has not yet flowered, so he still does not know whether the yield and output will be affected or not. His family still regularly visits the fields to detect pests and diseases, proactively preventing them to have a successful crop.
This is currently a particularly important growth stage for winter-spring rice, which fundamentally determines the final yield of the crop. Meanwhile, weather conditions are still complicated, favorable for pests and diseases to arise and cause severe damage and have the potential to spread widely. Therefore, people need to regularly monitor the rice fields for pests and diseases, especially for neck blast and leaf tip blight. |
According to statistics from the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, this winter-spring crop, the whole province sowed more than 29,133 hectares of rice. Early rice is in the stage of holding panicles and flowering; main-season rice and late rice are in the stage of standing panicles. The rice area has blossomed 165 hectares (Le Thuy 90 hectares, Quang Trach 40 hectares, Quang Ninh 35 hectares). However, during this period, pests and diseases have occurred in many areas. Of which, leaf tip blight and physiological yellowing have infected 420 hectares; rice blast has infected 341 hectares; bacterial leaf blight and bacterial stripe have infected 218 hectares; brown planthoppers and white-backed planthoppers have infected 125 hectares; Small leaf rollers are 28ha... In particular, the area damaged by rats is 413ha, concentrated in Le Thuy district 128ha, Bo Trach 90ha, Quang Trach 49ha, Ba Don town 47ha...
Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection of the province, Ho Khac Minh, said: Currently, with the weather conditions of early morning and late afternoon with a lot of fog, sunny days, scattered rain, cold nights, and farmers carrying out the second round of fertilization to welcome the panicles, it is very favorable for rice blast disease to cause damage (some rice areas have had burnt clusters). It is recommended that localities continue to direct specialized units to send staff to regularly follow the base to inspect and detect early to have timely prevention and control measures according to the instructions of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection. Along with that, localities need to do a good job of planning, forecasting and pest situation on crops to have measures to advise, direct and closely coordinate with local bases to organize timely and effective pest prevention and control to protect production, ensure crop productivity and output according to plan.
