As soon as arriving in Co To island district, Chairman Do Van Chien and the delegation respectfully offered flowers and incense to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh at the special national relic of President Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site on Co To island.
Before the spirit of President Ho Chi Minh, President Do Van Chien expressed his infinite gratitude for his great contributions and noble sacrifices for the revolutionary cause of the nation. He devoted and sacrificed his whole life to the cause of national liberation, fighting for peace and happiness of the people.
On May 9, 1961, Uncle Ho visited the soldiers and people of all ethnic groups on Co To Island. He advised: "Although the capital Hanoi is far from the islands, the Party and Government always care about the islanders and hope that they will unite and progress."
To show respect and gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh, in January 1962, the Hai Ninh Provincial Administration Committee asked for permission to erect a statue of him on the island and he agreed. This is the only place where Uncle Ho allowed his statue to be erected while he was still alive.
The historical relic of President Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site on Co To Island was built in 1968 and ranked as a National Monument in 1997.
After more than 50 years, after many renovations, upgrades and expansions, the project still retains its original value and has become increasingly meaningful.
On January 18, 2022, the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site on Co To Island was recognized by the Prime Minister as a Special National Monument.
