Football Association of Thailand President Resigns

At the 2023 SEA Games summary meeting of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, the results of the U22 Thailand team at the sports festival in Cambodia were dissected. The young Thai team only won the silver medal after losing 2-5 to Indonesia in the final match.

Speaking at this meeting, the President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, Mr. Prawit Wongsuwan, asked the President of FAT - Somyot Poompanmoung to resign. According to Mr. Prawit, what happened in the men's football final of the 32nd SEA Games was a shame for Thai football.

On the morning of July 1, official information from FAT said that Mr. Somyot Poompanmoung had accepted the resignation request from his superiors. The final procedures are being carried out so that FAT can quickly appoint an interim President in the shortest time.

Mr. Somyot Poompanmoung's term as FAT President is until 2024. Previously, in March 2023, Mr. Somyot announced that he would not run for the position of FAT President for the next term.

The country's press is concerned that FIFA may impose a ban on Thai football in the near future.
