The investment project to build international container ports No. 3 and No. 4 Lach Huyen-Hai Phong Port is not only a symbol of a new step forward in the competitiveness and global connectivity of Vietnam's logistics system, but also a strategic link in the national seaport development plan to 2030, with a vision to 2045, aiming to realize the goal of making Vietnam a strong and rich country from the sea.

This is a key project, of special significance not only to Vietnam National Shipping Lines and Hai Phong Port but also to the socio -economic development of Hai Phong City and the entire Northern key economic region. The project also affirms the strong progress of Hai Phong Port on its journey to the open sea - the journey to realize the aspiration to conquer, develop and integrate that many generations of leaders, officers and employees of the company have worked hard to cultivate through each historical period.

Deployed by Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company - the largest port management and exploitation unit in the North as the investor and operated by a strategic joint venture with Terminal Investment Limited (TIL) of MSC - the largest shipping line in the world.

The project is expected to become a modern cargo transit center, directly connecting international shipping routes, making an important contribution to improving import-export capacity, promoting investment attraction and contributing to the development of the logistics industry and supply chain in Vietnam in a modern and sustainable direction.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company (Vietnam National Shipping Lines) Pham Hong Minh said that the project has a total length of two berths of 750m, a depth of 16m, capable of receiving 165,000 DWT mother ships (14,000 TEUs) and 200,000 DWT offloaded ships, along with barge berths and advanced loading and unloading equipment systems.

In particular, berths 3 and 4 are invested and operated according to the Green Port - Smart Port model, applying modern technology and automation, ensuring environmental standards, saving energy and sustainable development in line with the sustainable development trend of the world maritime industry.

The inauguration and operation of ports 3 and 4 creates a system of six ports in Lach Huyen to meet the cargo transportation needs of not only Hai Phong but also the entire northern region.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee Le Anh Quan said that in recent years, the output of goods through Hai Phong seaport system has always increased at a high rate, from 12-15%/year, reaching 190 million tons in 2024 and expected to be 212 million tons in 2025. The above growth rate must be attributed to the contribution of the deep-water port system, which can receive large ships to load and unload goods, especially at Lach Huyen port area.

According to the plan, by 2030, Lach Huyen port area will have 13-16 ports (including 14-18 wharves), meeting the demand for cargo from 61.4 million tons to 90 million tons, and passengers from 10.5 thousand to 11 thousand.

With the inauguration of international container terminals No. 3 and 4 Lach Huyen-Hai Phong Port, on behalf of Hai Phong city leaders, Permanent Vice Chairman Le Anh Quan commended and highly appreciated the efforts of Vietnam National Shipping Lines and Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company in focusing resources on investing in many projects in the maritime and seaport sectors in Hai Phong, especially completing terminals No. 3 and No. 4 Lach Huyen Port to put into operation.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee also hopes to continue receiving the attention and support of the Central Party Committee, the Government, and central ministries and branches in investing in infrastructure, especially maritime infrastructure; at the same time, he affirmed that the city is committed to always accompanying and creating all conditions for investors to build, operate and exploit the remaining ports of Lach Huyen port and Nam Do Son port as well as invest in high-tech industrial parks, modern seaport services and logistics according to the green growth model, circular economy, and sustainable development.
