On the afternoon of May 22, at the Presidential Palace,President Vo Van Thuong received Chairman of the United Russia Party and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from May 21-23, 2023.
Welcoming Mr. Dmitry Medvedev and the high-ranking delegation of the Russian Federation to visit Vietnam, President Vo Van Thuong highly appreciated the significance of this visit as an opportunity for the two sides to discuss orientations for Vietnam-Russia cooperation in general, including cooperation between the two Parties and the two States. Expressing his pleasure at visiting Vietnam again, Chairman of the United Russia Party Dmitry Medvedev affirmed that the Russian Federation attaches great importance to the comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam. The high-ranking leaders of the Russian Federation, including the United Russia Party, are interested in developing relations with Vietnam as one of the top priorities and Vietnam is an important partner of Russia in the region.

President Vo Van Thuong affirmed that Vietnam consistently pursues an independent, self-reliant, multilateral and diversified foreign policy; always remembers the support and assistance that the people of the former Soviet Union gave Vietnam in the cause of national construction and defense; attaches importance to the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and wishes to continue developing with Russia the traditional friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the development interests of the two countries and the prosperity of the two peoples. In a friendly atmosphere, President Vo Van Thuong and Chairman of the United Russia Party Dmitry Medvedev welcomed the main results of cooperation in recent times, especially in the fields of economics , trade, science, education and training, local cooperation, etc. On this occasion, President Vo Van Thuong thanked Russia for continuing to provide annual scholarships for Vietnamese students to study at Russian educational and training institutions; believes that the 4th Session of the Vietnam-Russia Cooperation Committee on Education, Science and Technology scheduled to be held at the end of this year will continue to open up many new cooperation opportunities in this field.

The two leaders agreed to continue promoting people-to-people exchanges, including among the younger generation, in the coming time; promoting the role of friendship associations between the two countries, in order to enhance understanding as well as preserve the good values of the traditional friendship with a history of nearly 75 years. At the meeting, President Vo Van Thuong expressed his gratitude and asked the Russian leaders, government and the United Russia Party to continue to pay attention and create conditions for the Vietnamese community in Russia to live, do business and study long-term and stably. On this occasion, President Vo Van Thuong also sent greetings to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
