Joining hands to promote the potential of ethnic minority areas

On December 6, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee officially organized the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minorities in the city in 2024.

Mr. Hau A Lenh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister, Chairman of the Ethnic Minorities Committee attended and gave a speech at the congress. On the Ho Chi Minh City side, there were Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc - Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Duong Ngoc Hai - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; and 250 typical delegates, representing ethnic minorities (EMs) attended.

Speaking at the congress, Mr. Hau A Lenh affirmed that this is an event of profound political and social significance, a special symbol of the great solidarity and close bond between the Vietnamese people.

According to the Minister and Chairman of the Ethnic Committee, Ho Chi Minh City is an economic - cultural - educational center, a locality that always makes strong breakthroughs, is an important factor for the country's development and becomes one of the largest metropolises in the country. Entering 2024, Ho Chi Minh City is aiming for rapid and sustainable development, paying special attention to the development and lives of the people, including many development opportunities for ethnic minorities.

In the 5 years of implementing the Resolution of the 3rd Congress of Ethnic Minorities, the Party Committee and the Government of Ho Chi Minh City have closely followed the leadership and direction of the Central Government, had many correct policies, and comprehensively implemented ethnic policies suitable to the livelihood and development conditions of ethnic minorities in the city. Thanks to that, important results have been achieved in all areas such as: Reducing poverty; creating a favorable business environment, helping ethnic minority businesses to confidently expand production; the national grid system has been expanded to 100% of communes and hamlets; 100% of households have been provided with clean water for daily life, etc.

Meanwhile, the quantity and quality of ethnic minorities who are civil servants and public employees is increasing, with many having PhDs, masters, and bachelors.

Regarding health, ethnic minorities have access to high-quality health care, medical examination and treatment services, and the expanded vaccination rate for children under 1 year old is over 90%.

On behalf of the Party Executive Committee and the leaders of the Ethnic Committee, Mr. Hau A Lenh congratulated the achievements of the Party Committee, government, army and people of all ethnic groups in the city in the past time, especially praising and acknowledging the efforts of ethnic minorities and the Ho Chi Minh City Ethnic Committee, who have joined hands and unanimously promoted the potential and strengths of ethnic minority and mountainous areas, contributing to the people of the whole country in the current cause of innovation, development and protection of the country.

Mr. Hau A Lenh suggested that the city government continue to focus on implementing the best contents. In particular, taking drastic actions, having many breakthrough and focused solutions to effectively implement and take the lead in the country to complete the targets of the 3 National Target Programs, especially the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period in the city.

“Focus on building and consolidating the grassroots political system in ethnic minority areas. With a good premise of comprehensive development results in recent years, the city prioritizes and focuses on training and developing human resources, especially local ethnic minority cadres, increasing the number of capable and dedicated cadres to work in ethnic minority areas. At the same time, promote the role of prestigious people and people of all walks of life in building and consolidating the grassroots political system,” Mr. Hau A Lenh emphasized.

On this occasion, the Minister and Chairman of the Ethnic Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in ethnic movements and ethnic work.

Ho Chi Minh City leaders also awarded Certificates of Merit from the City People's Committee to collectives and individuals who have made many achievements in the above fields.
