Story of 2 special villages on the Ia Mo border

(GLO)- In the border commune of Ia Mo (Chu Prong district, Gia Lai province), Ring village and Khon village were established in different ways but both are very special. Although the villages were established not long ago, the people here live in harmony, unite to protect the country's border and build a new life.

Starting from Pleiku City, it took us more than 2 hours to drive to Ring Village. This village was established in 2005 under the Youth Village project of the Central Youth Union. The goal of establishing the village is to develop the socio -economy and ensure national defense and security in the border area with the core force being young volunteers from other localities in the province to establish businesses.

The border village is so beautiful this season, lying peacefully next to the green dipterocarp forests and rubber forests. The highlight of the new rural picture of the border area is the asphalt and concrete roads that have been invested in and built synchronously.

Mr. Nguyen Van Toan - Secretary of the Ring Village Party Cell is one of those who have been present since the village was first established. In his spacious and fully-furnished house, he told us about his youth, his dreams and ambitions that he had devoted to this land.

Mr. Toan said: In 2005, he and nearly 100 young people came here to start a business. Up to now, they have managed to turn the barren border land into a green one with rice fields, sugarcane, fruit trees... Many households in the village have become well-off, their children have been able to go to school, buying cars to travel has become a common thing. To achieve that result, it is partly thanks to the support of the State and especially the companionship of the Border Guard force.

About 100 meters from Toan’s house is Dam Thi Ninh’s house. Her family is also considered “well-off” in the village. Ninh has lived in the village for nearly 20 years and has contributed a lot to the community. The village has only more than 80 houses, so she has to “take on” many roles, being an official of the Women’s Union, Deputy Secretary of the Party Cell, and sometimes also a grassroots mediator. Perhaps because she is willing to devote herself to this land, she is always optimistic and cheerful.

Recalling the old days, she said: “When I first came here, there was no electricity, no roads, no amenities, and even things that are considered very normal in the city, such as a cup of coffee, a tea shop or a roadside stall. But all of that did not make me falter. On the contrary, it was those shortages that gave me more determination to contribute to this land.”

Unlike Ring village, the Khon stream residential area used to be a “bottleneck” that existed for many years in Ia Mo commune. The reason why it is called Khon stream residential area and not a village or hamlet is due to the nomadic farming practices of the people from ancient times. Starting from a group of Jrai households in Ia Pior commune (Chu Prong district) who came here to clear fields and gradually formed a residential community. People from Ia Pior commune but living on Ia Mo land, so population management encountered many obstacles.

After many years of living in the "two hometowns" style, in March 2022, joy came to more than 100 households in the Khon stream residential area when, during a working trip with the authorities of Chu Prong district and Ia Mo commune, the Provincial Party Committee leaders requested the authorities to complete the procedures to establish Khon village in Ia Mo commune to quickly stabilize the lives of the people. By the end of 2023, Khon village was established on the basis of Khon stream residential area.

Ring Village and Khôn Village today are no longer remote lands but have become highlights in the border region with bright red-tiled roof houses, vast fields of rice, sugarcane, and fruit trees. Accompanying the people of the two villages since the early days of establishment are generations of Border Guard officers and soldiers who have not been afraid of hardships, eating, living, and working with the people.

From livelihood models that solve immediate needs, helping people to survive in the early days to long-term models such as: demonstrating wet rice cultivation right at the working team's location so that people know how to grow rice when there are irrigation works; assigning officers and soldiers to directly propagate, mobilize, guide, and transfer techniques to people...

The love and responsibility of the Border Guard soldiers has become a "support" for people to trust and stick together to build a new life in the Ia Mo border area.

Colonel Tran Tien Hai, Commander of the Provincial Border Guard Command, said: Helping people develop the economy and stabilize their lives is not a matter of a day or two, but of continuous months and years with key, central issues.

“Over the past years, the provincial Border Guard force has not only performed well in its tasks of managing and protecting sovereignty and border security, but also actively participated in building and consolidating the political system in border communes; helping people develop the economy and stabilize their lives.

However, to build a strong national border defense, we still need more attention from organizations, individuals, sectors, and unions to turn to the border and join hands to support people," the Commander of the Provincial Border Guard Command emphasized.
