Join hands to protect the marine environment

Báo Cà MauBáo Cà Mau02/06/2023

Many high-profile activities were organized to spread the message calling on everyone to join hands to protect the marine and island environment.

The theme of World Oceans Day 2023 launched by the United Nations is "Planet Ocean: The Tides Are Changing".

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) launched World Environment Day 2023 with the theme “Solutions to plastic pollution”, focusing on implementing the campaign “Fight plastic pollution”.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment launched the organization of Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2023 (taking place from June 1-8) with the theme: "Sustainable exploitation and use of resources, protection of marine and island environment".

In Vietnam in general, and Ca Mau in particular, although the development of the marine economy has achieved many positive results in recent times, there are still many limitations that need to be recognized.

The focus on marine economic development is not yet harmoniously linked with social development and environmental protection.

The development of the marine economy is still not commensurate with the existing potential and advantages, and is not a real driving force of the economy.

There is still a situation of over-exploitation and use of marine resources and environment, leading to the risk of depletion and degradation of aquatic resources and marine ecosystems.

Marine pollution is still serious in many places, plastic waste pollution has become an urgent problem...

On this occasion, the Organizing Committee presented many national flags to encourage fishermen to confidently go out to sea.

At the rally, Mr. Nguyen Hoang An, Head of the Sea and Islands Division (Department of Natural Resources and Environment), called on authorities at all levels, organizations, businesses and individuals in the province to take practical actions to protect marine resources, environment, and national rights and interests at sea.

Actively participate in movements to protect the marine and island environment, continue to promote activities to clean up the homeland beaches; do not litter, especially non-biodegradable plastic waste, into the marine environment.

After the rally, delegates and local people participated in planting forests.

Releasing fish and shrimp seeds aims to propagate and mobilize the entire population to participate in protecting, restoring and regenerating marine resources.

Union members, officials and people of Ngoc Hien district participated in collecting trash in the Dat Mui Tourist Area.

Promote the conservation of sea areas and marine resources, coastal ecosystems, develop sustainable fisheries; prevent natural disasters and coastal erosion.

There are comprehensive, effective and sustainable development solutions for marine economic sectors with great potential and advantages, especially fisheries economy, renewable energy, marine tourism and maritime economy...
