Russian fast food chain Dodo Pizza has just announced that it will close all 4 branches in Ho Chi Minh City from May 26.

Global revenue surges, Vietnamese market shakes

The closed Dodo Pizza stores are all located on major roads in Binh Thanh, Go Vap, District 1 and District 7. Meanwhile, the company continues to maintain operations of stores in Dong Xoai ( Binh Phuoc ).

According to Dodo Pizza Vietnam, the change comes from "many objective factors and new strategic directions". This decision was not easy and it is truly regrettable to have to say goodbye after about 4 years of association. Despite closing all important stores, the company still hopes to be able to meet customers again "on a new journey".

From the beginning, this chain chose Ho Chi Minh City as the first place to open a store. However, during that time, the city implemented social distancing to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic, so the company postponed the opening date. In addition to selling pizza, the company also sells other fast foods such as spaghetti, fried chicken, french fries, etc.

When they first joined the race, Dodo Pizza representatives said that Vietnam was a very promising market, because the economy and middle class were growing at an incredible rate.

In terms of overall business performance, the pizza chain is expected to generate more than $1.2 billion in revenue by 2024, up 19% year-over-year. In April 2025 alone, the company recorded global revenue of $3.7 million, up 27%.

According to Technomic, Dodo Pizza is the fastest growing pizza chain in the world (2021). As of the end of last month, the chain had 1,364 stores in 24 countries.

Based on the latest data from the supplier, to become a franchisee, you need to pay a national franchise fee of $150,000. Then, you will pay 5% of your revenue to the brand every month. Each new store opening will cost you an additional $5,000. This total cost includes technology systems, training, and operational support, with no additional costs.

Dodo Pizza is looking for strategic partners, including national franchisees and multi-unit operators - operating in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and South America. Partners will receive comprehensive support from technology to operations and training from day one.

Billion dollar market, not easy to win the hearts of Vietnamese customers among thousands of delicious dishes

The F&B (food and beverage) market in Vietnam, especially the pizza segment, is becoming increasingly competitive, with the participation of domestic and foreign enterprises.

Currently, some prominent brands include Pizza 4P's (Vietnam), Pizza Hut and Domino's Pizza (USA), The Pizza Company (Thailand)... In addition, there are many other names from England, Italy, Australia... making the market even more exciting.

According to a report by IMARC Group, the pizza market in Vietnam will reach about 780 million USD in 2024 and is expected to increase to 1.1 billion USD in 2033, with an average growth rate of 3.8%/year in the period 2025 - 2033. This development is mainly due to the fast and convenient eating habits of busy people, along with the increasing popularity of pizza in restaurants and hotels.

However, fast food brands also face fierce competition in terms of quality, price, and service from major competitors. At the same time, from traditional Vietnamese food shops, which are familiar and suitable for consumers' tastes.
