According to information from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, in the period from August 30 to September 3, 2024, in general, Vietnamese airlines will operate a total of 4,257 flights, an average of 840 flights/day, an increase of 3% compared to the previous holiday week and an increase of 3.5% compared to the same period in 2023.
Of which, the average number of domestic flights is 600 flights/day, up 5% compared to the previous holiday week and up 2.8% compared to the same period in 2023; the average number of international flights is 241 flights/day, down 2% compared to the previous holiday week and up 5.1% compared to the same period in 2023.
Regarding domestic flights and North-South routes (route connecting 3 major cities: Hanoi - Da Nang - Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnamese airlines have increased their flights with an average of 241 flights/day, an increase of 8% compared to the week before the holiday and an increase of 14.9% compared to the same period last year.
In fact, these are still the most "busy" domestic routes, with high operating frequency not only during major holidays of the year but also on normal days.
Domestic tourist flights (to localities such as Vinh, Binh Dinh, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc) and flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to other localities are also being exploited by airlines, with an average of 171 flights/day on domestic tourist routes and 187 flights/day to other localities, up 2% and 4% respectively compared to the previous holiday week.
In the context of the decline in the fleet of Vietnamese airlines and the focus on domestic operations to serve the peak season of National Day on September 2, to meet the travel needs of passengers, the operation of international routes of Vietnamese airlines decreased slightly (-2%).
However, on international tourist routes alone, according to the airlines' reports, the number of flights still increased, with the total number of flights operated by Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet averaging 27 flights/day, up 5% compared to before the holiday and up 95% compared to the same period last year. The number of other international flights decreased slightly, with an average of 213 flights/day, down 3% compared to the week before the holiday and down 0.8% compared to the same period in 2023.
Increasing the number of flights during the upcoming holidays, especially on domestic routes, has allowed Vietnamese airlines to supplement the supply of seats to the market.
Accordingly, the total number of seats provided on domestic flights from August 30 to September 3, 2024 is expected to be more than 600,000 seats, an average of 122,000 seats/day, an increase of 5% compared to the previous holiday week and an increase of 1.5% compared to the same period last year.
Tourist routes and North-South routes are still the routes with the largest increase in the number of seats provided, with an average of 33,000 seats/day and 55.4,000 seats/day, respectively, an average increase of 6.8% compared to the previous holiday week and an increase of 3% compared to the same period last year.
According to a survey of ticket price data of Vietnamese airlines on August 20, ticket prices during the National Day holiday on September 2 increased compared to normal days before the holiday, about 20%.
On the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route, the highest recorded ticket price is about 2.6 million VND/way provided by Vietnam Airlines on August 30 during the daytime (including meals), an increase of 8% compared to a week earlier (August 23); also with this flight time, Vietjet Air has a price of about 2.3 million VND/way, an increase of 25% compared to a week earlier.
On the Hanoi - Nha Trang route, the airfares announced by the airlines range from 2.4 to 3.0 million VND/way, an increase of about 24% compared to the previous week of the holiday... The airfares tend to increase, but appear mainly on the days starting and ending the holiday. For the days in the middle of the holiday, the basic airfares are relatively stable, remaining at the same level as the days before the holiday.
In addition, when compared with the data for the peak holiday season of April 30 and May 1, 2024, although it is also the peak period of the year, ticket prices for the September 2 holiday have decreased significantly and maintained a stable rhythm during the past summer, accordingly, the price of basic economy class passenger transportation services on domestic flights during this period is lower, fluctuating 40% -60% of the maximum level according to regulations.
Passengers should book tickets early on the airline's official channels to have more options on ticket prices. Passengers can also consider booking tickets on flights departing early or late in the day with cheaper prices.
