The story revolves around an orphan boy, an old bookstore, a cat that can speak human language (to live to the point of speaking human language so fluently, he should be called Old Muop). On the saddest and most disappointing day of Old Rin (his name is Rintaro), Old Muop appears and makes a suggestion: There are many books locked in one place. He must save those locked books. Please lend him your strength. What a strange thing. And yet Old Muop convinces Rin to set out, embarking on a journey to fight against seemingly great people to save the books.
It is not only a journey to save books, it is also a journey for people to understand what it means to love books, understand books, and truly know how to read books. Love is not about locking books in a precious wooden cabinet and then locking it; love is not about trying to read as quickly and as much as possible day and night; it is not about "chopping" books into small pieces and calling it a "summary", taking One Hundred Years of Solitude, Quiet Flows the Don,... to summarize them into one line and then make excuses: people are so busy now, they don't have time to read each line, each page of a book, there are so many things to do at home and just sit there...
Love is respect, understanding, helping, caring and freedom.
I really like the part about the scholar in the first labyrinth, after the book is saved - or rather he is saved - from the obsession that to be an intellectual, a scholar, one must read many books, people often see him sitting in the garden, the book on his knee, never turning the page, although he is still reading attentively. The reporter comes to interview: do you regret giving up the habit of reading quickly?
He beamed: My wife's coffee is so delicious!/.
