Each broadcast, Compassionate Car will send to the audience meaningful stories about family love, husband and wife love, filial piety... as well as the constant efforts of families to overcome adversity and poverty, towards a better future. And this week will be the story of Mr. Le An Huong (residing in Phu An hamlet - Long Ho commune) and Mr. Vien Huu Nghia (Quang My hamlet - Hieu Phung commune) - both residing in Vinh Long province.

Mr. Vien Huu Nghia's family is originally from Can Tho but has no house or land so they have to travel everywhere to make a living. Mr. Nghia said that his family has several brothers who all work as hired laborers, security guards, and parking attendants. The second brother's family works in Ho Chi Minh City, the youngest works in Dong Nai, the younger brother works in Phu Quoc, Binh Duong and then Can Tho, there is enough space. Later, the second brother got married and saved up to buy a piece of land in Hieu Phung commune.

“My mother is often sick, after thyroid surgery she had 3-4 strokes. In 2018, my mother was seriously ill, paralyzed in one arm and one leg. At that time, my family was very poor, my siblings and I had to find jobs, doing whatever we could. Then three strokes, sometimes she remembered and sometimes she forgot, couldn’t speak clearly, her arms and legs were weak. I was very worried because I didn’t have a stable job and my parents were sick, so my worries just multiplied,” Nghia shared.

Family life was already difficult, now both parents are sick and cannot take care of themselves. Therefore, Mr. Nghia decided to return home to take care of his elderly parents.

Mr. Nghia said: "Every month, my second brother and youngest brother send home about 1.5 to 2 million, coconuts can be sold for 1 million, sometimes a few hundred, saving up nearly 3 million, I have to pay for food and medicine, sometimes I can buy medicine, sometimes I can't, that amount of money is not enough to get by anywhere."

Sharing about Mr. Nghia's family, Ms. Le Thi Mai - a neighbor sympathized: "The family has no rice to eat, only a few coconut trees. My neighbors and I had to bring rice over to help. The family is so miserable, I feel like crying."

Mr. Nghia expressed: “I also suffer a lot, sometimes when my parents are sick and don’t have money to buy medicine, I have to borrow money from this and that. As a child, my parents cannot abandon me, so I try to fulfill my duty as a child. I dream of having a job so that my life will be more comfortable in the future, with a job, I can earn money to take care of my parents more.

Seeing his mother sick, seeing his father weak, Mr. Nghia's heart ached with pain when his duty as a son was still not enough to provide his parents with a full life. While running around to buy medicine, this dutiful son also took advantage of the opportunity to find seasonal work to support his family. The future was uncertain with the burden of making a living weighing heavily on his shoulders, but over the years, Mr. Nghia never allowed himself to lose hope. He still hoped to have some capital to learn hairdressing near home, still hoped to be able to work more to pay off the debt from the years of illness and hoped for a small family - where his parents would always be healthy and peaceful after a series of stormy days.

The story of Mr. Le An Huong makes those who know him choke up. Because at the age of over 60, his health is no longer strong, but he still works hard with his chisel and awl to make processed wood products to earn money to pay for his grandchild's education.

Mr. Huong said: “His parents were unmarried, I raised him from then until he grew up, after all he is my own child, I feel sorry for him and cannot bear to abandon him. Seeing him without parents, I feel sorry for him, he is very obedient, everyone here loves him, after school he helps his grandfather with work, whatever his grandfather tells him to do he does.”

Mr. Huong thought back thoughtfully on the entire path he had taken in life: "My life was full of hard work. First, I studied electronics, sold leaves on a boat, then went ashore to do carpentry and mortar. In the end, I had to follow my family's carpentry profession."

Working hard to earn a living, but after all these years, Mr. Huong's family life is still difficult, unable to have a solid roof. It is even more difficult when his wife suffers from myocardial infarction, sometimes healthy, sometimes tired, leaving him alone to support the family.

Working hard all day, Mr. Huong kept dropping this job and taking on another one: "If I can't close the goods, sometimes if someone nearby wants to do something, they ask me to do extra work. I also think a lot, sometimes at night I can't sleep, wondering how to earn money for my nephew to study properly.

Mrs. Be Tam felt sorry for her husband: "Seeing him work so hard, I feel sorry for him. He does everything anyone hires him to do, all the time. When he was setting up a net late at night, a barge ran over him and hit him, causing him to bleed and fall into the river. Because he was very scared when he went out late at night, he sat here waiting for him to come home."

Phuc Duy could not help but cry when he remembered the affection his grandparents always had for him: "My grandfather always gave me the best food and did not let me go hungry (crying). If I try to study hard, I will earn money to repay my grandparents. I pray that my grandparents will live with me forever."

“I hope I have money to repair the house because there is no place to sleep. Last night, there was a storm in the middle of the night. I carried the baby, put on a raincoat and ran to Mrs. Ut's house. She lives upstairs. I don't dare stay here for fear that it will collapse.” - Mrs. Tam wished.

Mr. Huong confided: “The sad thing is that I don’t have the ability to build a private house for my wife and grandchildren to live in, so I just cut it short and continue to work. If I have the strength, I will continue to work until I can finish it all and then think about it later. I think that in the future, if I have capital, I will buy some wood blocks in advance and save it. Then I will study and consider not making big things anymore but making small things to sell to people living in rented houses. This is cheaper, lighter, and easier to sell.”

A lifetime of hard work, but in their old age, poverty and hardship still constantly haunt the two frail old people. The grandparents still rush back and forth for daily bread, for the shelter from the sun and rain that is no longer intact after the storms, and most of all for the future of their young grandchild who has suffered many misfortunes. There are many hardships and worries, but hidden deep in the corners of their teary eyes are bright hopes for a new direction for the carpentry profession and for the whole family after difficult years.

Turning dreams into motivation and the strength of family will be a great source of spiritual encouragement. How will Mr. Nghia and Mr. Huong's family compete in the two dramatic funding rounds of the program? And when the bus "docks", how much capital will each household bring home to realize their family's dream of settling down?

The Journey of Charity Bus Episode 732 will be broadcast at 7:10 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025 on THVL1 channel and rebroadcast on the platforms of Vinh Long Newspaper and Radio and Television. We invite you to watch!
