Structure of the General Department of Logistics and Engineering after the merger

The General Department of Logistics and Engineering consists of 32 affiliated units, including 82 units stationed in 31 provinces and cities. Many units are stationed in remote areas where socio-economic conditions are still facing many difficulties.

According to the report of the General Department of Logistics and Engineering ( Ministry of National Defense ), in 2024, the Army will implement the adjustment of the force organization according to the resolution of the Politburo and the Central Military Commission. On January 24, the Minister of National Defense signed Decision No. 366 on merging the General Department of Logistics and the General Department of Engineering and reorganizing them into the General Department of Logistics and Engineering.

The General Department of Logistics and Engineering is a strategic advisory body, assisting the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Minister of National Defense in leading, directing, and managing the state on logistics and engineering in the Vietnam People's Army and the militia and self-defense forces; directing the logistics and engineering sector of the entire army to carry out logistics and engineering contents according to the regulations on logistics work of the Vietnam People's Army.

After the merger, the General Department of Logistics and Engineering has 32 affiliated units (3 agencies, 7 specialized departments, 5 schools, 3 hospitals, 12 factories, enterprises, companies, corporations, 2 research and design institutes).

Of which, 82 units are stationed in 31 provinces and cities nationwide; many units are stationed in remote areas with difficult socio -economic conditions and special, dangerous, arduous, and toxic working environments, especially military and petroleum units.

Speaking at the press conference in early 2025 on the morning of February 25, Lieutenant General Do Van Thien, Political Commissar of the General Department of Logistics and Engineering, said that the merger of the two general departments into the General Department of Logistics and Engineering is a major policy demonstrating the new thinking and vision of the Politburo , the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense in adjusting the organization of the logistics and engineering sector during the 80 years of fighting and growing of the army, meeting the requirements of protecting the Fatherland in the new era.

"The organization and staff of the General Department will be more streamlined after the merger; functions and tasks will have new developments, setting higher requirements to successfully carry out assigned tasks in the new situation," said Lieutenant General Do Van Thien.

According to Lieutenant General Thien, in the coming time, the General Department of Logistics and Engineering will focus on implementing the Central Military Commission's leadership resolution on logistics and engineering work, ensuring service for training, combat readiness, exercises, regular tasks and other unexpected tasks. In particular, ensuring good service for important political events in 2025 such as: the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, National Reunification; 80 years of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.
