Since sixth grade, L. has undergone two brain surgeries. One might think that a childhood plagued by illness would cause her to withdraw, but no, this little girl always chooses to live happily, optimistically, and lovingly. After each surgery, she only rests for about two weeks before asking her parents to let her go back to school. She's afraid of being bored at home, loves going to class, and loves seeing her friends.
Throughout her years of treatment, she almost never missed school, except for follow-up appointments. Even when teachers worried she wouldn't be healthy enough to participate in extracurricular activities, she enthusiastically attended.
At home, L. is the daughter her parents are incredibly proud of and love dearly. Despite not being in the best health, she wakes up at 5 a.m. every day to help her parents set up their shop and do housework. Sometimes, exhausted, she just rests for a short while before continuing to help them. Everyone loves her because she is gentle, affectionate, and very thoughtful.

The doctors who treated her also had a special affection for her. One doctor who had followed her for many years emotionally said: “I was stunned when I heard the news. A patient who overcame illness with extraordinary willpower, always cheerful and approachable… I truly feel so much sympathy for her.”
What tormented her family the most were L.'s seemingly innocent words when she was healthy, expressing her desire to donate her organs to save others, even though at that time she only had one healthy eye.
Amidst their overwhelming grief, the family decided to donate the healthy parts of the child's body to save others. Doctors at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital successfully harvested and transplanted many tissues and organs to save patients' lives. The child's heart gave life to another; the liver was transplanted to an adult and a child; the two kidneys gave a chance of life to two patients with end-stage renal failure; and the child's lungs and corneas continued their journey of bringing hope to those who were waiting for a miracle.
The passing of the 19-year-old girl is a tremendous loss for her family and loved ones, but her death is meaningful because, from this profound grief, she has left behind the invaluable gift of life for many others.
