Real Madrid want to own Rodri to upgrade their midfield. |
After spending up to 178 million euros to bring in a series of new players including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen, Carreras and Claudio Mastantuono, Real Madrid has no intention of stopping in the summer transfer market of 2025. The next priority of the Spanish royal team is to find a replacement for Toni Kroos - the star who retired last year.
Real Madrid's board want a midfielder who can play as a conductor, directing play from midfield, a role that Kroos has played for a decade. They are targeting a player with similar qualities to Rodri. If possible, Real are ready to recruit the Spanish star himself.
Real are closely following a number of names such as Nicolo Barella (Inter), Enzo Fernandez (Chelsea) and Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool), but all are irreplaceable pillars at their home clubs, and also have long-term contracts, making the possibility of recruiting almost impossible. The expected transfer value is all over 100 million euros, except for Barella, which may be slightly lower.
In that context, Rodri emerges as a bright name. The Spanish midfielder suffered a serious injury at the beginning of the 2024/25 season and has only just returned, but still shows great influence every time he is on the field. He has a contract with Man City until 2027, but has not yet renewed and has not ruled out the possibility of wanting a new challenge.
Real Madrid understand that if Rodri does not renew in the summer of 2026, Man City will be forced to sell to avoid losing him for free. With Rodri at 29 years old, the right age in his career and the same age as Zidane when he joined Real, this is considered a reasonable deal in terms of physicality, experience and class.
Los Blancos are still closely monitoring developments regarding Rodri. An offer from Real Madrid is entirely possible, especially if Man City fail to finalise the player's future in the next 12 months.
