Ms. Ngo Thi Minh Sao, Deputy Head of the Culture, Tourism & Science and Technology Department of the district, said: In 2025, Co To aims to welcome over 300,000 tourists, increasing their length of stay, spending, and revenue, while minimizing plastic waste in tourism activities (in the first quarter, more than 10,000 tourists visited the district). To achieve this goal, the district is focusing on researching and proposing investments in technical infrastructure, building an organizational structure for managing, operating, supporting, and guiding units, businesses, organizations, and individuals involved in tourism activities on the islands; assessing the current status of routes, ports, passenger transport, tourism activities, and managing travel agencies; and investing in the development and linkage of tourism products, including island tours, in conjunction with other tourist attractions in the district.
The Department coordinated with the Tourism Association to organize a conference summarizing tourism in 2024 and developing tourism in 2025. The conference invited communication experts to provide guidance on digital tourism communication and the application of digital transformation in tourism business operations to members of the Tourism Association, service businesses, and transportation companies. The district produced a video guiding accommodation establishments on procedures, documents, and how to submit applications through public services, focusing on registration procedures for accommodation categories. It also collaborated with Vietnam Television to film the "Spring Dance" program, which will be broadcast during the Lunar New Year 2025. The district organized a New Year's greeting ceremony for the first visitor of the year at Co To port; and organized the second opening of the sea festival in 2025. Repairs and restoration work on tourism signage, public signs, street names, and routes were completed after the storm. Accommodation establishments were guided to complete their business requirements according to regulations. Maintaining the Coto tourism website at Cototourist.com; adding the website Amazingcoto.vn to provide attractive information and images about Coto; producing promotional videos introducing Coto tourism. In particular, the district is drafting a pilot project for managing and organizing tours to the islands within the district; the District Department of Natural Resources, Environment and Agriculture is reviewing and guiding the registration and inspection of vehicles, having received registration for 142 vehicles from 93 owners of passenger transport vehicles.
The district is upgrading Ly Thuong Kiet road from the port to the end of the square of the special national historical site of the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Area on Co To island, to expand space and infrastructure to create a landscape and environment for tourism and service development; renovating and upgrading Thanh Lan wharf; upgrading and expanding the wharf in zone 1 of Co To town; renovating and upgrading major roads on Co To island; implementing a wastewater collection and treatment project in the core area of Co To town; and organizing extracurricular activities to disseminate knowledge about culture, history, and environmental protection to students.
To develop sustainable tourism, revitalize tourism, and gradually elevate the Co To tourism brand, the district is attracting investment in tourism infrastructure, improving service quality, diversifying experiential activities, removing difficulties, and creating favorable conditions for local people to develop tourism businesses. According to the Island Tour Development Project, six pilot tour routes will be established, including islands with potential: Route 1: Co To Port - Hon Ca Chep (Carp Island) - Hon Su Tu (Lion Island) - Co To Con Island; Route 2: Co To Port - Hon Ca Chep (Carp Island) - Hon Su Tu (Lion Island) - Co To Con Island - Thanh Lan; Route 3: Zone 1 Port - Hon Ca Chep (Carp Island) - Hon Su Tu (Lion Island) - Co To Con Island; Route 4: Zone 1 Port - Southeast Island - Hon Ca Chep (Carp Island) - Hon Su Tu (Lion Island); Route 5: Thanh Lan Port - Hon Ca Chep (Carp Island) - Hon Su Tu (Lion Island) - Co To Con Island; Route 6: Co To Port - Hon Ca Chep (Carp Island) - Co To Con Island - Tran Island.
