Lam Dong Provincial Police discovered and handled a number of social media accounts posting false information about the flood situation, causing public panic and affecting the disaster prevention and control work of local authorities.
On the afternoon of November 24, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, Lam Dong Provincial Police, said that the unit had invited Ms. NTBĐ (born in 1973; residing in Don Duong commune, Lam Dong) to work to clarify the act of posting false information , with the content "dam burst in Da Lat" on November 20.
The post, which took place during heavy rains in Lam Dong province, caused people to panic and misunderstand, believing that the "dam burst in Da Lat" was the "cause of flooding in D'Ran commune, Lam Dong province".
During the investigation, Ms. NTBĐ admitted to violating the law and stated that she heard the above rumor and did not verify the accuracy of the information but hastily posted it so that everyone would know and find a safe shelter.

On November 23, Lam Dong Provincial Police also verified and invited 5 cases to work, including: Mr. NQT (born in 1993), Ms. MPT (born in 2003), Ms. LTNN (born in 1993), all residing in Xuan Huong Ward - Da Lat, along with Ms. NTHL (born in 1995, residing in Lam Vien Ward - Da Lat) (these 4 cases are co-administrators of Fanpage "D.L" with 627 thousand followers) and Mr. TVT (born in 1996; residing in Xuan Huong Ward - Da Lat), administrator of Fanpage "D.LRVCT" (with 18 thousand followers), to clarify the act of posting false information, with the content "it is expected that the supply of gasoline for Da Lat will run out in 1 to 2 days" on November 20.
Notably, Fanpage “Đ.LRVCT” also posted unverified information with the content “All passes have landslides and faults, is this considered a disaster?”
Working with the police, the above cases stated that because they had not had access to complete information and had not verified the accuracy of the information, they thought that due to the effects of prolonged heavy rain, gasoline tankers were also banned from traveling through the routes into Da Lat to prevent landslides, so they posted articles to inform everyone about the situation.

However, the posted information was all untrue, causing public panic, leading to people gathering in large numbers to buy and stockpile gasoline and oil, causing local shortages, potentially posing a risk to fire prevention and fighting safety in the locality.
After working with the police, the above cases have realized their illegal acts. Currently, Lam Dong Provincial Police are consolidating the records to strictly handle them according to the law.
