At 4:45 p.m. on October 13, Hanoi time, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm announced the 2025 Nobel Prize in Economics to scientists Joel Mokyr (Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, USA), Philippe Aghion (London School of Economics and Political Science, UK) and Peter Howitt (Brown University, Providence, RI, USA) for explaining economic growth through innovation.
This is the prize that closes the 2025 Nobel week.
The Nobel Prize in Economics has been awarded 56 times to 96 laureates from 1969-2024, of whom only three were women.
The youngest person to receive this prestigious award at the age of 46 is French economist Esther Duflo (Nobel Prize in Economics 2019).
Last year, three scientists, Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson, and James A.
Robinson was named for his research on how institutions are formed and impact prosperity, helping the world understand more about the causes of wealth disparities between countries./.
