Coming to the 2025 AFC U.20 qualifiers, U.20 Vietnam has made careful preparations. Coach Hua Hien Vinh and his team went through a training trip in Japan, then competed with strong opponents such as Imabari, Ehime, and U.20 Russia. Considering the situation in Group A, U.20 Vietnam is also considered to have many opportunities to win the top spot. In addition to U.20 Syria (the team that beat U.20 Bangladesh 4-0 on September 21, currently leading the group) which can cause difficulties for U.20 Vietnam, the remaining teams such as U.20 Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Guam Island are not rated too highly. However, to realize the goal of winning the top spot, U.20 Vietnam still deployed a fairly strong, attacking squad in the match against U.20 Bhutan. The surprise that coach Hua Hien Vinh brought to this match was leaving some familiar players like Cong Phuong, Long Vu or goalkeeper Bao Ngoc on the bench.

On the opposite side, despite surprisingly holding U.20 Guam to a 1-1 draw on the opening day, U.20 Bhutan could not show much. Coach Takahashi Hideharu's team showed a monotonous style of play, relying heavily on high balls. Compared to the first match, U.20 Bhutan made 3 changes in the lineup. Kinzang Tenzin - the player who scored the first goal for U.20 Bhutan is a notable face, continuing to be positioned as the highest player in the attack.

With the cheers of fans at Lach Tray Stadium, U.20 Vietnam entered the match excitedly, pushing up the attacking formation. The right wing of U.20 Vietnam with the appearance of Le Phat became the main attacking direction, often bringing dangerous situations. Without having to wait too long, U.20 Vietnam also found the opening goal. In the 8th minute, from Le Phat's difficult cross, the ball bounced right into Bao Long's position. With the right foot, the full-back of U.20 Vietnam fired a "thunderous" low shot, completely defeating goalkeeper Nima of U.20 Bhutan.
With the goal, U.20 Vietnam played more confidently. U.20 Vietnam held the ball for nearly 70% of the time, made 8 shots, completely dominated U.20 Bhutan but could not score more goals. In addition to attacking the flanks, Coach Hua Hien Vinh's team also deployed a variety of attacks in the middle. Le Phat, Bao Long and Quang Duyet had more opportunities but could not take advantage of them. The final moves of U.20 Vietnam were still somewhat hasty, causing the opportunity to pass regrettably.

In addition to the lack of cohesion in the first half, the U.20 Vietnam defense also did not play well. The only plus point was that U.20 Vietnam was willing to push up the formation to compete and recover the ball from the U.20 Bhutan field. Otherwise, the home team often lost the ball in the middle of the field, allowing U.20 Bhutan to have dangerous counterattacks. In the 27th minute, Jigme Namgyal sent a threat to Dinh Hai's goal with a situation where he escaped down the left wing and shot powerfully. Fortunately, the ball did not go in the right direction, and the U.20 Vietnam net was still protected.
U.20 Vietnam still makes fans worried after the first half
In the second half, the adjustments of coach Hua Hien Vinh helped U.20 Vietnam become more worth watching. In particular, the expected player Cong Phuong entered the field. The presence of the young player currently playing for Viettel The Cong Club helped U.20 Vietnam confidently play short balls and control the midfield well. In the 52nd minute, Cong Phuong made a classy pass, creating conditions for Dang Duong to double the gap for U.20 Vietnam.
Starting from the 65th minute, U.20 Vietnam started to play slowly, giving U.20 Bhutan a few chances. However, apart from crosses from both wings, coach Takahashi Hideharu's team was stuck in finding a way into the U.20 Vietnam goal.
Not only could they not score, in the 75th minute, the net of U.20 Bhutan shook for the third time when Cong Phuong dribbled from midfield and shot past goalkeeper Nima. In the 78th minute, Cong Phuong had the second assist, helping Huu Tuan seal the score 4-0 for U.20 Vietnam. Not stopping there, in the 90+1 minute, Cong Phuong ended the super performance with a super long-range shot, sealing the 5-0 victory for U.20 Vietnam.
Cong Phuong (number 10) helped U.20 Vietnam completely change their appearance in the second half.
With a big win over U.20 Bhutan 5-0, coach Hua Hien Vinh and his team confidently lead the AU20 table. Vietnam has 3 points with U.20 Syria but has a better goal difference. In 2 days (September 25), U.20 Vietnam will have the second match, against U.20 Guam.
In the previous Group A match, U.20 Bangladesh was held to a 2-2 draw by U.20 Guam.
