Expanding the scope of development
To celebrate the 76th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2021), the new Nong Son Bridge was officially put into use on the morning of September 2, 2021.
According to Mr. Tran Canh Ha, Deputy Director of the Quang Nam Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board for Transportation Works (the investor), this is a very important project located on National Highway 14H, crossing the Thu Bon River, aiming to meet the objective of seamless connection with the Eastern Truong Son Road, serving transportation needs, and creating conditions to promote local socio-economic development.
On March 24, 2017, in the presence of thousands of people from Duy Xuyen, Dai Loc, Dien Ban districts and surrounding areas, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province held the inauguration ceremony of Giao Thuy Bridge to commemorate the 42nd anniversary of the Liberation of Quang Nam and the 20th anniversary of the province's re-establishment.
The Giao Thuy Bridge connects the two banks of the Thu Bon River, creating a new North-South horizontal axis comprising National Highway 14H - Provincial Road 609B - National Highway 14B (Nong Son - Duy Xuyen - Dai Loc to Da Nang); shortening travel time and creating conditions for exploiting potential and advantages for the development of industry, services, and tourism .
During the 2020-2025 term, many road and bridge projects received significant investment from both the central and provincial governments. A prime example is the Cam Kim bridge and access road project on National Highway 14H, implemented using funds from the second phase of the national road network improvement project for the transportation sector. This project was completed and put into operation, connecting Hoi An with Triem Tay (Dien Phuong ward, Dien Ban district).
Besides the Cua Dai, Cam Kim, Giao Thuy, and Nong Son bridges, construction is currently underway on the Thu Bon River for the Song Thu Bridge (part of the project connecting National Highway 14H to Provincial Road 609C) and the Van Ly Bridge. Across the Vu Gia River, another project preparing for technical opening is the An Binh Bridge (part of the project connecting Provincial Road 609C to National Highway 14B), coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Quang Nam Province.
Safety first.
The construction of the road bridge will open up new development opportunities, creating favorable conditions to maximize the potential and strengths of the land through which the project passes.
Similar to the eastern region, the Cua Dai Bridge, inaugurated on March 27, 2016, fulfills the mission of connecting the entire coastal road axis of Vietnam, the section passing through Quang Nam. This provides a foundation for the province to continue implementing component projects of Road 129 (Vo Chi Cong Road), extending from Hoi An to the road leading to Chu Lai Airport, promoting industrial, urban, tourism, and service development.
With the Van Ly bridge and access road project under construction, Dien Ban town is inviting investment and business development for the "Van Ly Industrial Cluster Technical Infrastructure Investment and Business Project".
Because the Van Ly bridge will connect seamlessly with the vertical axes of National Highway 1 - Provincial Road 610B - Provincial Road 609C, the horizontal axis of National Highway 14H - Giao Thuy Bridge - Provincial Road 609B - Provincial Road 609 - Provincial Road 605, and provide continuous access to the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway, trade will be convenient and safe.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hao, Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairman of the District People's Council of Dai Loc district, there are two major rivers flowing through the area: Vu Gia and Thu Bon. Dai Loc is a low-lying area, where a large volume of water from upstream flows in with high intensity, but the flood drainage rate is slow, causing flooding.
Along the Vu Gia River, many families live by farming, owning fields on the other side of the alluvial plain, so they have to use personal boats to transport agricultural products and supplies for production. Crossing this river, especially during the rainy season and floods, is unsafe.
“The central and provincial authorities are paying attention to allocating investment funds for the project connecting the DT609C road to the QL14B road, with the An Binh bridge crossing the Vu Gia River, so that people no longer have to worry every time the rainy season and floods come; shortening the travel distance between regions B and C, eliminating ferry crossings and private boats,” said Mr. Nguyen Hao.
In Nong Son, the old Nong Son bridge, put into use on April 29, 2005, solved many problems, especially traffic safety. However, due to the increasing number of vehicles, especially heavy trucks, the old bridge could not meet the demand because of its limited load capacity of 8 tons, a width of only 6.5m, and its deteriorating condition. Therefore, the Provincial People's Committee decided to build a new bridge, parallel to the old one as mentioned above.
It can be seen that most of the bridges built have eliminated the obstacles of ferry crossings, especially during the rainy season and floods. Therefore, bridge construction not only opens up the "lifeline" of the economy but also solves the problem of traffic safety with the motto "human life is paramount".
