On September 4th, the War Remnants Museum (under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports) held a gathering titled “50 Years of Journey: Because Love is Peace ” and inaugurated a thematic exhibition on “Southern Vietnamese Cuisine during the Resistance War”. This is a meaningful activity to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Museum's formation and development (September 4, 1975 - September 4, 2025).
The gathering was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, veteran revolutionaries, historical witnesses, and a large number of domestic and international friends and partners.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Pham Dinh Phong – Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) emphasized: “Half a century ago, amidst the hustle and bustle of a newly liberated city, the 'Exhibition House of American-Puppet Regime Crimes' was established.”
Preserving the memories of war is not about sowing hatred, but about drawing profound lessons and cherishing the values of peace, independence, freedom, and happiness today.”

The War Remnants Museum was established on September 4, 1975, according to the policy of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee. Through several stages, the unit has successively been named "Exhibition House of War Crimes of Aggression" (1990) and from July 4, 1995, officially became the "War Remnants Museum".
Over half a century, the museum has welcomed more than 25 million visitors, becoming a special cultural and tourist destination, an active member of the International Network of Museums for Peace (INMP) and the International Council of Museums (ICOM). Notably, since 2014, it has been the first museum in Ho Chi Minh City to be completely self-sufficient in terms of operating costs.

The museum has consistently received international recognition: Top 25 most attractive museums in Asia, Top 10 most beautiful museums in the world; in 2023 it was ranked as a Class I museum in the Vietnamese National Museum System.
The statistic that "one in six international tourists visiting Ho Chi Minh City visits the museum" is clear evidence of the appeal of this heritage site.
Over the past five years, despite being severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, the museum's staff and employees have proactively applied 3D technology, VR360, QR codes, etc., expanding online visitor spaces and spreading messages of peace beyond borders.

A significant milestone was the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), now under the control of the U.S. Department of State , to create an exhibition space showcasing “joint efforts to address the consequences of war . ”
This is a step forward signifying reconciliation, demonstrating a spirit of closing the past, looking towards the future, and affirming Vietnam as a reliable partner of the international community.
As part of the commemoration, the museum is holding a special exhibition titled "Southern Vietnamese Cuisine During the Resistance War." The exhibition showcases simple meals in the war zone, yet imbued with spiritual strength, reflecting the creativity, resilience, and faith of our soldiers and people throughout the war.
This is also a "journey back in time," helping the public to feel more proud of their ancestors and to appreciate the peace we enjoy today.

On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the War Remnants Museum expresses its gratitude to the generations of leaders, historical witnesses, officials, employees, and international friends who have accompanied it throughout its journey.
The museum staff affirms that they will continue to innovate, promote values, and become "a museum for peace" in the hearts of the public, while also becoming a cultural, historical, and educational destination of international stature, contributing to building a civilized, modern, and compassionate Ho Chi Minh City.
