The memorial service and funeral of former President Tran Duc Luong will be solemnly held at 7am today (May 25) at the National Funeral Home (5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi). The burial ceremony will be held at 3pm the same day at his hometown cemetery, Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho town, Quang Ngai province.

In deep sorrow, over the past two days, 830 delegations representing departments, ministries, branches, organizations, localities, units, the armed forces, diplomatic missions, representatives of international organizations and friends, and compatriots with about 10,500 people came to pay their respects, send wreaths, and express condolences to the family of former President Tran Duc Luong at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi; Thong Nhat Hall, Ho Chi Minh City and Hall T50, Military Command of Quang Ngai province, the hometown of comrade Tran Duc Luong.

At exactly 7 o'clock, the memorial service for formerPresident Tran Duc Luong was solemnly held.

Attending the funeral at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong (Hanoi) were: General Secretary To Lam; President Luong Cuong; National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

Deeply mourning the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong, the memorial service was also attended by comrades: Former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; former President Truong Tan Sang; former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and many other leaders and former leaders of the Party and State.

Comrade Pany Yathotou, member of the Politburo of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Vice President of the Lao PDR attended the funeral of former President Tran Duc Luong.

At the Reunification Hall (Ho Chi Minh City), Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen; former President Nguyen Minh Triet and many leaders, former leaders of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front who are retired in Ho Chi Minh City; members of the Funeral Organizing Committee; veteran revolutionary cadres, intellectuals, representatives of leaders of ministries, departments, branches, localities, organizations and units in the Southern region attended the memorial service for comrade Tran Duc Luong.

Attending the memorial service at the hometown of comrade Tran Duc Luong were Secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee Bui Thi Quynh Van, former President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, along with leaders and former leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Ngai province; representatives of Party committees at all levels, authorities, fronts, agencies, departments, branches, and organizations in Quang Ngai province. A large number of cadres, soldiers, and people from all walks of life were present at the farewell ceremony for comrade Tran Duc Luong.

In a solemn and emotional atmosphere, the military band played the National Anthem to bid farewell to former President Tran Duc Luong - a virtuous, exemplary, talented, and loyal leader of the Party, who devoted his whole life to the country and the people.

With infinite sorrow, President Luong Cuong read the eulogy, stating that Comrade Tran Duc Luong, former member of the Politburo, former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, was a leader with many great contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation; a leader of great prestige, a shining example of studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style.

Comrade Tran Duc Luong, born on May 5, 1937 in Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho district (now Duc Pho town), Quang Ngai province, a land rich in historical, cultural and revolutionary traditions, permanently residing at 298, Van Phuc street, Lieu Giai ward, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi city. He participated in the February 1955 revolution and joined the Communist Party of Vietnam on December 19, 1959.

Over 50 years of revolutionary activities, training, striving and maturing, from the time of regrouping to the North (February 1955), he studied and worked in the geology sector until becoming a member of the Politburo, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, he has held many positions, in many fields of work, from science and technology to practical development of economy, culture, society, education, foreign affairs... Especially in the early stages of the renovation process initiated and led by the Communist Party of Vietnam. In his position as Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers (from February 1987 to August 1992), Deputy Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (from September 1992 to August 1997), he made many important contributions in leading and organizing the implementation of the Party's renovation policy, helping our country overcome the difficulties and challenges of the early period of renovation.

In September 1997, at the first session of the 10th National Assembly, he was elected President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. As a member of the Politburo and President, he and the Party and State leadership focused on leading and directing the entire Party, people and army to effectively implement the Resolution of the 8th National Congress of the Party, the resolutions of the Central Executive Committee and the National Assembly; at the same time, closely coordinated with legislative, executive and judicial agencies, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations to perform the duties and powers of the President and Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council in accordance with the Party's policies and guidelines, the provisions of the Constitution and laws.

In practice, he is a leader with a strong political stance, rich in experience, always steadfast in the goal of national independence and socialism, creatively applying Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh Thought, loyal to the Party's Platform and guidelines and the interests of the nation and people; has a far-sighted vision, is decisive, calm, careful, enthusiastic and intelligent. He always ponders and proposes solutions to lead and direct the successful implementation of the Party's guidelines and guidelines, the State's policies and laws, and pays attention to improving the material and spiritual life of the people.

“Comrade is one of the key leaders of the Party and State, always upholding the spirit of responsibility, being exemplary and preserving solidarity and unity within the Party, having a democratic and scientific working style; always putting the interests of the Party and the nation above all, having an exemplary lifestyle, respected and loved by comrades, compatriots and international friends,” President Luong Cuong emphasized.

With 88 years of age, 65 years of Party membership, and more than 50 years of revolutionary activities, comrade Tran Duc Luong has constantly strived to devote all his efforts to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party, the nation, and the happiness of the people. From an engineer to a leader in the Mining and Geology sector, he was a National Assembly Delegate of the 7th, 8th, 10th, and 11th terms; a member of the Party Central Committee of the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th terms; a member of the Politburo of the 8th and 9th terms; a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the 8th term, Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers; Deputy Prime Minister; President. Regardless of his position, he always fulfilled his duties well and excellently, a shining example of revolutionary ethics, impartiality, and lifelong devotion to the country and the people.

In recognition of the great contributions of Comrade Tran Duc Luong, our Party and State have awarded him the Gold Star Order, the 65-year Party membership badge; along with many other noble orders, medals, rewards, and titles of our Party, State, and international friends.

In his emotion, the President expressed: “Farewell, comrade, the entire Party, the entire people and the entire army are determined to unite as one, strive to continue to follow the glorious revolutionary path that the Party, beloved Uncle Ho and our people have chosen; firmly adhere to Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh thought; firmly adhere to national independence and socialism; highly promote the spirit of patriotism, self-confidence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, the strength of great national unity; comprehensively and synchronously promote the renovation process, bringing the country firmly into a new era - the era of strong development and prosperity of our beloved Vietnamese people”.

President Luong Cuong sent his deepest condolences to the family of comrade Tran Duc Luong for the irreparable pain and loss.

On behalf of the family, Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, son of former President Tran Duc Luong, expressed his deep gratitude to the leaders of the Party and State; former leaders of the Party, State, Fatherland Front, leaders of localities, agencies, organizations, units; high-ranking leaders of countries, international friends, diplomatic agencies, compatriots, comrades, friends as well as relatives who came to offer condolences and see off his father to his final resting place; and thanked the professors, doctors, and medical staff who cared for and treated his father wholeheartedly throughout the past time, until his last moments.

Comrade Tran Duc Luong's son choked up: "...Dad, you lived a life full of love for the Party, for the people, for the country, for your homeland and for your whole family. The legacy you left behind is not only your achievements in the revolutionary career but also your love, intelligence, devotion, kindness and humility. We promise to live up to what you taught us. We, your children and grandchildren, will take care of your mother in her old age and will always protect and love each other as you always wanted. We hope you will rest in peace, always watching over and blessing your mother, all of us, our family, our homeland and the country that you always loved."

To the solemn background music of the song "Soul of the Dead", General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and other leaders and former leaders of the Party and State carried the coffin of former President Tran Duc Luong to the hearse, sending him off to his final resting place.

The coffin of former President Tran Duc Luong was solemnly covered with the national flag. The hearse carrying the coffin of former President Tran Duc Luong left the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi, passing through the streets of Hanoi to Noi Bai International Airport to return to his hometown in Quang Ngai.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. the same day at the hometown cemetery, Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho town, Quang Ngai province.
