The Civil Aviation Authority issues urgent directive.

Việt NamViệt Nam03/02/2024

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, in recent days, airports in the northern region have been experiencing fog and low clouds, reducing visibility below flight operating standards and negatively impacting flight operations. Many flights have had to be diverted or have been delayed.

According to meteorological forecasts, this weather pattern may continue until February 8th (the 29th day of the Lunar New Year), particularly during the night and early morning hours.

To proactively prevent, limit, and minimize the negative impacts of weather developments, the Department's leadership requested airlines to actively monitor weather conditions and coordinate with airports, air traffic control centers, and air traffic management companies to develop appropriate operational plans and strategies.

Airlines must provide timely notification and have contingency plans in place to serve passengers in case of changes to transportation schedules.

The Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) closely coordinates with relevant meteorological facilities to promptly implement CDM (Continuously Operated Navigation Management), monitoring and managing flight operations in accordance with weather developments. Simultaneously, it collaborates with and supports airlines and airports in operational matters, ensuring safety and minimizing negative impacts caused by weather conditions.

The Department also requested the Port Authorities to monitor, supervise, and manage the operational activities of airlines to ensure security and safety; and to handle any issues arising in aviation operations at the airport in accordance with regulations and their authority.

Over the past few days, numerous flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Noi Bai ( Hanoi ), Tho Xuan (Thanh Hoa), Vinh (Nghe An), and Phu Bai (Hue) airports have had their departure times adjusted, delayed by 2 to 6 hours due to fog. As a result, a series of domestic and international flights have been affected.

At Tan Son Nhat Airport, many flights were affected and delayed, causing passengers considerable inconvenience. Some people said they only received notification of delays of 3-6 hours upon arrival at the airport, making the wait very tiring. Many people traveling with children and carrying large amounts of luggage faced even greater difficulties.
