The Civil Aviation Authority requests to increase night flights to ensure the rights of passengers on the occasion of April 30.

Travel demand for the April 30 and May 1 holidays continues to increase sharply, causing many domestic flights to be short of tickets and at high prices. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has asked airlines to increase flights, especially during off-peak hours and at night.

As the holiday approaches, many passengers report being unable to buy tickets or being forced to accept very high prices to be able to travel.

According to a survey by Tuoi Tre Online on the ticket sales systems of Vietnam Airlines , Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways, and Pacific Airlines, most flights in the time frame from April 25 to May 3 have high ticket prices, many flights are in short supply or sold out.

Ticket prices increase, many flights are fully booked

Specifically, a round-trip flight from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City during peak times costs from 5 to 7 million VND depending on the airline and ticket class.

Of which, Vietnam Airlines recorded the highest round-trip ticket price, up to more than 7 million VND, while Vietjet Air and Bamboo Airways fluctuated at 5 - 6 million VND/round-trip ticket.

The "sold out" situation also appeared on many other tourist routes such as Hanoi - Phu Quoc, Hanoi - Da Nang, Hanoi - Nha Trang.

Economy class tickets on these routes are commonly around 3.5 - 4.5 million VND/trip, some routes only have business class with prices up to 7 million VND.

Ms. Que Anh in Da Nang said she planned to fly to Ho Chi Minh City and then continue to Con Dao on April 30. However, when she checked the Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet systems, she was "shocked" when the round-trip ticket price was up to 3.5 - 5 million VND, and there were only high-class tickets such as Premium Economy or SkyBoss.

Not only are the prices high, the number of economy class tickets available is very limited. Many routes only have flights late at night or early in the morning, making it difficult for people to choose a suitable schedule.

Request airlines to add night flights

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, during the April 30 and May 1 holidays this year, domestic airlines are expected to operate 7,536 flights, an average of 685 flights per day, an increase of 21% over the same period last year. The total number of seats provided is about 1.5 million.

Of which, flights to and from Ho Chi Minh City account for the largest proportion with 5,083 flights, an average of 462 flights/day. The Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route alone is expected to have 1,261 flights, an increase of 16% compared to 2024, with a total of 305,000 seats provided.

However, the reality shows that the current supply still cannot fully meet the very high demand from passengers, especially on holidays and convenient time slots.

Faced with this situation, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has issued a document requesting domestic airlines to continue to allocate resources and adjust plans to increase flights on routes with high demand, especially the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route.

The Department also emphasized the need to increase operations during off-peak hours and at night to reduce rush hour pressure and ensure meeting the soaring travel demand, especially in the context of Ho Chi Minh City hosting many national-level activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

Airlines are also required to notify airports and service providers of their plans to increase flights in advance so that they can proactively coordinate and arrange resources for service. At the same time, they need to be prepared in terms of operations and minimize delays and cancellations due to subjective reasons from the airlines.

In addition, the Civil Aviation Authority requires airlines to strengthen control over ticket sales through agents, ensuring compliance with regulations on ticket prices and responsibilities to passengers, especially in the event of long flight delays or cancellations.

Service quality assurance, on-time commitment

The Civil Aviation Authority continues to emphasize the goal of improving service quality, especially during the peak holiday and summer seasons of 2025. Airlines need to maintain on-time performance, promptly handle passenger complaints and feedback, and fully publicize flight schedules and adjustments.

The Department also encourages airlines to proactively inform passengers through communication channels, applications, call centers, etc. so that people can promptly grasp travel schedules and support policies when incidents arise.

The Civil Aviation Authority wishes to receive the companionship and sharing of passengers during the peak period. Comments and feedback on aviation services can be sent directly via the hotlines of regional airport authorities or the official website of the authority at: https://caa.gov.vn
