On the afternoon of May 20, within the framework of the expanded G7 Summit held in Hiroshima, Japan, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met and talked with leaders of many G7 countries, including US President Joe Biden.

At the meeting with US President Joe Biden, the two leaders agreed to maintain delegation exchanges at all levels, especially high-level. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and President Joe Biden discussed a number of measures to promote bilateral relations and international and regional issues of mutual concern.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the relationship between the two countries has developed positively recently, with a focus on economic and trade cooperation. President Joe Biden highly appreciated the results of his phone call with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
This is the fourth meeting between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and US President Joe Biden since the beginning of his term.
Also at the expanded G7 Summit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and leaders of G7 countries as well as many international organizations.
On the same morning, the Prime Minister met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and President of the Comoros Federation Azali Assoumani. At these meetings, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh made many important cooperation proposals on economics, trade, investment, digital transformation, green transformation, circular economy, innovation, etc.
In particular, the Prime Minister proposed to strive to soon bring the bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and Canada to 10 billion USD.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's proposals were all approved by leaders.
The Canadian Prime Minister agreed with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on measures to promote relations, including maintaining and promoting economic and trade relations with Vietnam.
Meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, the Prime Minister also asked the IMF to continue providing policy advice to the Vietnamese Government on economic management, improving fiscal and monetary tools, and restructuring finance and banking.
This proposal was approved by the IMF Managing Director and expressed his wish that the IMF continue to advise on interest rates, monetary policies, and enhance the self-reliance of Vietnam's economy to cope with the crisis. The IMF and Ms. Kristalina Georgieva personally committed to strongly supporting and accompanying Vietnam in the development process.
Meeting with OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) Secretary General Mathias Cormann, the Prime Minister expressed his hope that OECD will support Vietnam in implementing and adapting to new areas, especially global minimum tax, energy security, food security, climate change, knowledge economy, circular economy, etc.
The OECD Secretary General pledged to continue promoting exchanges, cooperation, and support for Vietnam's economic recovery and development, especially in areas of interest to Vietnam such as: Building investment policies adapted to global minimum taxes, green economy, circular economy, etc.
Also at the conference, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The two sides discussed measures to promote the implementation of agreements reached by the two countries' senior leaders. |
