Singer Bach Yen became famous at the age of 15.

Famous singer Bach Yen's real name is Quach Thi Bach Yen, born in 1942 in Soc Trang . At the age of 9, while studying at La Providence Primary School, Can Tho, Bach Yen joined the church choir to become familiar with music.

At the age of 14, Bach Yen went to tea rooms to ask to become a singer. Bach Yen quickly received enthusiastic applause from the audience through songs such as: Ben Cu; Gai Xuan ... and some French songs such as: Tango Blue; Étoile Des Neiges... A year later, with the song Dem Dong by musician Nguyen Van Thuong, Bach Yen officially became a music star.

In 1961, Bach Yen went to France to study vocal music. Bach Yen was recruited by Mr. Pham Van Muoi as a singer, singing at the restaurant La Table Du Mandarin owned by him on Rue de l Echelle, District 1, Paris. During this time, Bach Yen was invited by the French label Polydor to record and tour several European countries.

In 1965, she was invited to the US to perform for a long time, appeared on US TV channels and released records in the US as an entertainment icon of the East. Notably, famous singer Bach Yen participated in Environment Show - the most popular program in the US at that time and performed with many famous faces around the world such as: The Beatles, Bob Hoge, Bing Crosby, Pat Boone, Rolling Stones... Bach Yen was also the first and only Vietnamese singer to sing the Hollywood soundtrack in the movie The Green Berets ...

Received a proposal after only 2 days of meeting

Famous singer Bach Yen is the dream lover of many young men, including musician Lam Phuong. He once went to Bach Yen's house to ask for her hand in marriage but did not receive a nod from the beauty. To express his love for the famous female singer, he wrote a series of songs such as: Autumn Sorrow; Hundred Memories, Thousand Loves; Farewell; Lonely Love ... In the song Lonely Love , there is a passage: "The day we fell in love/ I did not know our love was a lie/ To walk the dusty path of a foreign land/ You cried for a life far away/ Why did you come back and then you quietly left/ Gathering love for your homeland/ Giving it all to your distant lover..."

In 1978, famous singer Bach Yen met musician Tran Quang Hai by chance at a music show. At that time, he was almost unknown. However, Bach Yen quickly accepted his marriage proposal after just over a day of meeting.

Famous singer Bach Yen said that at that time, musician Tran Quang Hai had just divorced his wife and was raising his 5-year-old daughter alone. He was 34 years old but thin and frail. They met quickly behind the stage, she asked about his father - Professor Tran Van Khe and his 5-year-old daughter. The short conversation made musician Tran Quang Hai's heart flutter. After that, he searched for her everywhere to invite her to dinner.

The second time they met the next day, musician Tran Quang Hai confided: "Bach Yen's hands are so beautiful! If possible, I would like to take her home." Thinking he was joking, famous singer Bach Yen nodded. However, the following week, he sent out 400 invitations to his friends to attend the wedding.

Famous singer Bach Yen recounted: "I became the daughter-in-law of a traditional music family in such an unbelievable way, but happiness has never faded in our relationship. Mr. Tran Quang Hai is humorous and warm, always giving me a reliable support during four decades together."

Since becoming the wife of musician Tran Quang Hai, famous singer Bach Yen has switched to singing folk songs. She and her husband have devoted much of their time to preserving traditional melodies and musical instruments. In their 70s, they still tour together in many countries around the world , bringing the vitality of folk music to many generations.

Currently, musician Tran Quang Hai is no longer here, but his image remains intact in the memories of his famous wife. For many years, famous singer Bach Yen has lived quietly, almost never appearing in public.
