Veterans devoted to their homeland

After the war, returning to normal life, veteran Truong Van Phong (residing in Hamlet 8, Vinh Cong Commune, Tay Ninh Province) actively worked, produced, and developed his family's economy. When life gradually stabilized, he spent a lot of time and money on social security activities in and outside the locality.

Following the commune officials, we visited Mr. Phong's house on a day in July. Welcoming guests with a warm smile, this 70-year-old man slowly told us about his career and his "fate" with social security activities.

Mr. Phong confided: “During the period of 1976-1981, I joined the army. After returning, I participated in the work at the commune, but due to family circumstances, I quit after 1 year. Since then, I have grown rice to develop the family economy . In 2014, I switched to growing red-fleshed dragon fruit. Realizing that the family's cultivated area was still small, I rented an additional 0.7 hectares of land for cultivation, increasing the total cultivated area to over 1.3 hectares. Over time, the family economy gradually stabilized and I began to participate in social security activities.”

Promoting the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, Mr. Phong has always been exemplary and a pioneer in patriotic emulation movements and activities. Realizing that people had difficulty traveling, in 2009, Mr. Phong voluntarily contributed 40 million VND and mobilized people to donate land to build rural roads in the hamlet. Over the years, he has regularly supported funding to build bridges and roads in the locality, and at the same time contributed funding to help neighboring communes build a road leading to Dang Thanh Cong Primary School, Hoa Phu Commune (now Vinh Cong Commune).

And Mr. Phong's journey of loving his homeland is also continued by giving gifts to people in difficult circumstances in the area. "On average, I give gifts 3 times a year, including 1 time on the occasion of Lunar New Year. The number of gifts usually ranges from 70-100 gifts/time, depending on the family's conditions, each time will have a different total cost. Although each gift is not of great value, I hope everyone will have more motivation to overcome difficult times" - Mr. Phong shared.

In recent times, Mr. Phong's meaningful work has created a positive ripple effect in the community, thereby contributing to joining hands with the locality in implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development. It is known that Mr. Phong has received many certificates of merit for his good achievements in studying and following the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh and in the campaign for the whole people to unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas;…/.
