In recent years, the movement "Veterans compete to do good business " in Hung Thi commune (Lac Thuy) has spread widely and has been enthusiastically responded by members. From the movement, many typical and exemplary war veterans have emerged, becoming role models in production and labor , contributing to the construction and development of an increasingly prosperous homeland.

The wood production and processing workshop of veteran Nguyen Xuan Dinh (second from left), Hung Thi commune (Lac Thuy) creates jobs for many workers.
Notable is the wood production and processing workshop model of veteran Nguyen Xuan Dinh. After returning to his hometown in 1981 after being discharged from the army, realizing that the locality had an abundant source of acacia trees, Mr. Dinh developed a wood production and processing model, built a factory and established a company. Mr. Dinh shared: "When I first left the army, I initially intended to find a suitable job for my family to develop the economy. During the process, I accumulated experience and gradually expanded the scale. I also hope to receive attention from all levels, sectors and local authorities to develop the model, improve economic efficiency and maintain production for workers."
Not only being exemplary and a pioneer in economic development, Mr. Dinh is also an enthusiastic and dedicated member in grassroots activities. As a member of the Veterans Entrepreneurs Club, he and other members effectively organized emulation movements such as "Cemeteries in good production and business", "Cemeteries helping each other reduce poverty, doing good business" to help members, especially those in difficult circumstances. Thanks to Mr. Dinh's model, jobs have been created for hundreds of local workers. Mr. Bui Van Thoi in Bao Hieu commune (Yen Thuy), currently working at Mr. Dinh's production workshop, said: "Thanks to Mr. Dinh's wood workshop, jobs have been created for many workers, with monthly salaries reaching about 13 - 14 million VND". Up to now, Mr. Dinh's model has expanded to 18 facilities throughout the province, with revenue in 2023 of about 250 billion VND, contributing nearly 15 billion VND to the state budget.
Mr. Bui Van Linh in Manh Tien 2 hamlet, Yen Bong commune (Lac Thuy) is also one of the typical examples of the commune in the movement of war veterans competing to develop the economy. Upholding the tradition of Uncle Ho's soldiers, after returning to the locality, at first his family faced many difficulties, Mr. Linh struggled and thought about finding a way to develop the economy. Thanks to the support of the War Veterans Association in the commune in association with the Social Policy Bank for loans and organizing training courses, transferring science and technology to help him build a model of raising pigs and ducks on a commercial scale. This model brings Mr. Linh's family an income of more than 100 million VND/month.
Comrade Pham Quang Quan, Chairman of the Association of War Veterans in Lac Thuy district, said: In 2024, the Association of War Veterans at all levels in the district actively mobilized cadres and members to carry out the movement of exemplary war veterans and war veterans helping each other to do good business. The movements were effectively implemented and spread to grassroots branches throughout the district. Up to now, the whole Association has 48 farm models, 53 economic development models, 128 small traders doing business, and 6 cooperatives owned by war veterans. In the coming time, the Association of War Veterans in the district will continue to closely coordinate with the district's agencies, departments and branches, especially the district's Social Policy Bank, to create conditions to help members with difficulties in accessing capital to develop production; coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the district's Agricultural Service Center to open classes to transfer science and technology to cadres and members to improve the effectiveness of economic development.
