BHG - Nearly 90 years old, Mr. Tran Quang Ky, Nui Moi residential group, Vinh Tuy town (Bac Quang) is still working hard with his children and grandchildren to take care of the acacia garden, tea hills, fish pond and herd of more than a hundred pigs on a 7-hectare land. Not only is he a pioneer in developing the household economy, he is also an exemplary person in mobilizing and guiding people to do business effectively.

Enlisted at the age of 23, his youth was associated with the army. After completing his service, he was sent to study military driving, School 255, after graduating he drove a truck at Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Company, then Hung Yen Tractor Factory. Being a hard-working and diligent person, at the age of over 50 he left his hometown Thai Nguyen to Vinh Tuy to reclaim land, buy land, plant trees to develop the economy.

The newly planted orange garden, carefully tended by Mr. Tran Quang Ky, has begun to bear fruit.
The newly planted orange garden, carefully tended by Mr. Tran Quang Ky, has begun to bear fruit.

Mr. Ky's family's "garden - pond - barn" model is a bright spot in the region, leading in economic development with a pig farm, fish pond and a well-organized crop area. From 1999 to 2017, Mr. Ky held the role of Head of the local Farmers' Association. During his work, he always actively guided people on planting and raising techniques, shared experiences in caring for crops, livestock and preventing and treating livestock diseases. Thanks to that, many households have risen out of poverty and have stable lives.

Vinh Tuy is a potential land for growing Sanh oranges, however, over time, the oranges have aged and degraded, so Mr. Ky's family continued to replant a part of them and switched to forestry, mainly growing cinnamon trees with more than 10,000 trees and acacia, tea, green-skinned grapefruit and agarwood trees on nearly 7 hectares. In addition to growing forestry trees, Mr. Ky's livestock farm maintains a stable population of more than 100 large and small pigs and breeding sows; hundreds of pigs are sold for meat every year. In addition, he also supplies breeding pigs to neighboring hamlets and communes. Thanks to his perseverance and diligence, his economic model brings in a stable income of more than 400 million VND per year.

As a soldier, Mr. Ky is also an exemplary father. All three of his sons voluntarily signed up to join the army, continuing the tradition of patriotism and fulfilling their military service. Currently, the youngest son is working in Hoang Su Phi district, where he fought in the past. Mr. Ky shared: “The army trains people to be brave. Therefore, I also want my children to fulfill their duties well and train themselves to be disciplined and resilient to grow up.”

It can be seen that with more than half a century of dedication to the country and homeland, Mr. Tran Quang Ky is not only a testament to the spirit of a soldier in wartime, but also a symbol of a resilient and persistent farmer in peacetime with the desire to enrich his homeland and country. Talking about Mr. Ky, comrade Phan Hoang Dat, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Vinh Tuy town said: "Although he is old, Mr. Ky's work is very admirable. The garden - pond - barn model that he built is currently being followed by many households in Nui Moi residential group and has brought about clear results. This is an example for people to follow and develop an effective and sustainable economic model."
