Tam Giang Tay Border Guard Station, along with local people and forest rangers, released the sea turtle back into the sea.
Earlier, at around 10 PM on April 17th, while fishing at sea, Mr. Truong Vu Bao (residing in Bao Vi hamlet, Tan An commune) discovered two hawksbill turtles and a green sea turtle caught in his fishing net. After temporarily caring for them, Mr. Bao proactively notified the border guards to coordinate with relevant authorities to release them back into their natural environment.
Hawksbill turtles and green turtles are rare species of sea turtles, listed in the Red Book of Vietnam and the world , facing the risk of extinction and requiring strict protection.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Nhong, Commander of Tam Giang Tay Border Guard Station, urged: When fishermen discover rare species while fishing on rivers and seas, they should promptly report it to the authorities so that they can be released back into the wild; keeping them in captivity or consuming them is a violation of the law.
