Li Keqiang, member of the 17th, 18th and 19th Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China and former Prime Minister of China, passed away early on October 27 in Shanghai at the age of 68, according to Chinese media.
“Comrade Li Keqiang, while resting in Shanghai in recent days, suffered a sudden heart attack on October 26 and after all efforts to save his life failed, passed away in Shanghai at 0:10 a.m. on October 27,” state broadcaster CCTV reported.
An obituary will be issued later, CCTV added.
As Premier and head of the State Council (Government) of China, Li Keqiang worked under President Xi Jinping for a decade from 2013 until his retirement in March this year.

Chinese netizens expressed shock at the news of Li Keqiang's death on Weibo (China's Twitter).
“He will always live in our hearts,” wrote one Weibo user. Hu Xijin, former editor-in-chief of the Global Times, one of the official mouthpieces of the Chinese Communist Party, wrote: “This is too shocking. My deepest condolences . ”
