After leaving his role as assistant coach at the Vietnam national team, Coach Choi Won Kwon will continue to be associated with Vietnamese football when he becomes the new head coach of Thanh Hoa Club from the 2025/26 season.

Mr. Choi Won Kwon used to be the right-hand man of coach Kim Sang Sik, making an important contribution to the 2024 ASEAN Cup championship. His role is likened to the "brain" Lee Young-jin who previously supported coach Park Hang So.

However, Choi Won Kwon decided to leave the Vietnam national team to pursue an independent coaching career. The opportunity came quickly when Thanh Hoa Club said goodbye to coach Tomislav Steinbruckner after a series of unsatisfactory results in the 2024/25 V-League.

Born in 1981, Choi Won Kwon is a former South Korean player who played for and later coached Daegu FC. He is famous for his disciplined, defensive and organizational coaching style - a style of play that is very suitable for a team without stars like Thanh Hoa.

With a deep understanding of Vietnamese football, Coach Choi is expected to help the Thanh club regain its "dark horse" image in the V-League. The 2025/26 season promises to be more exciting with the participation of many quality coaches from Asia and Europe.
