The most traditional team in the Netherlands lost 4 consecutive matches before welcoming Volendam to the Amsterdam Arena. On the evening of November 2, Ajax defeated Volendam 2-0 thanks to goals from Bergwijn (57') and Akpom (89').
Thanks to this victory, Ajax has 7 points after 10 rounds of the Dutch league and escaped the bottom position, rising to 15th place. After losing to Ajax, Volendam dropped to second to last place (17), just above the bottom team Utrecht.
After Ajax went through a bad run of results (4 points in 9 matches), coach Maurice Steijn was fired. In his debut match, new coach John Van't Schip helped Ajax defeat Volendam.
Van't Schip played for Ajax for 11 years but never played for the Netherlands. After retiring, he coached several clubs and was the coach of the Greek national team from 2019 to 2021.
