In the first months of 2023, the province's agricultural export situation has improved a lot. In order to continue to maintain the growth momentum of exports, in addition to finding markets and improving product quality, businesses in the province also strive to diversify agricultural products to meet market demand.

According to statistics from the Department of Agricultural Product Processing and Trade, the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Product Quality Management, Thanh Hoa province currently has 40 enterprises participating in exporting agricultural products to 30 countries and territories around the world . Some typical markets are China, Korea, Japan, Russia, some EU countries... The main export products are pickled cucumbers, pickled chili, tapioca starch, tomatoes, canned pineapple, frozen suckling pig, frozen clams, dried clams, frozen seafood, surimi fish cakes, fish meal... The total export value of agricultural products of the province is about 322 million USD/year. However, at present, besides the traditional agricultural export products and strengths of the province, the export markets also require and have demand for many new types of products. Therefore, to keep up with the market, export enterprises in the province need to make efforts to diversify export products and strengthen and improve product quality to increase the value of goods.
China is a major export market for Thanh Hoa agricultural products. This is also a market with great potential and large consumer demand thanks to its large population and diverse needs. According to forecasts from professional sectors, in the following months of 2023, agricultural trade activities in the Chinese market will continue to be vibrant. In particular, the demand for meat, eggs, milk, fruits and vegetables will increase. This is a great opportunity for the province's export enterprises.
Director of Hoa Hong Seafood Processing Company Limited (Hai Thanh Ward, Nghi Son Town) Tran The Hong, said: We have had 10 years of cooperation with partners from China and Korea in the field of production, processing and export of aquatic and seafood products, but mainly exported through unofficial channels. Currently, when it was recognized that the demand of agricultural and aquatic products in the markets was increasing, the company planned to purchase raw materials early, invest in additional large-capacity drying systems, speed up production and purchasing progress, and ensure enough export orders. At the same time, research to diversify the types of seafood export products. Currently, in addition to exploited and frozen products, we have exported through unofficial channels some more products such as dried mussels, dried fish, dried shrimp, etc. Thanks to that, revenue and profit also increased compared to the same period from 5 to 10%.
About 5 years ago, the European and Middle Eastern markets were identified as potential markets for Trung Thanh Agricultural Products Processing Joint Stock Company (Nong Cong). However, currently, the demand and export turnover to the above markets have decreased, the company has been implementing solutions to ensure the proposed plan. According to the company's director Le Truong Tung, the company's main canned products such as pineapple and baby cucumber have been highly appreciated by the markets for their quality. However, currently, when competition in exporting goods is increasing, in addition to finding new markets, the company must make efforts to diversify its export products. In particular, canned sweet corn, exported chili, and exported lychee are the products that the company is exploiting to increase revenue and meet market tastes.
It is known that the EU market is considered a market with great advantages in terms of export and investment attraction, technology transfer thanks to the EVFTA Agreement with Vietnamese enterprises in general and Thanh Hoa in particular. In particular, there is high consumer demand for vegetables, fruits, healthy nuts and high-quality specialty products; demand for interior wood (especially certified wood)... This is a great opportunity for enterprises in the province to improve the quality of agricultural products that are currently being produced and processed and to research and learn to produce new products to meet the needs of import markets.
In the first 5 months of 2023, the total export value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products of the province is estimated at more than 100 million USD. In order to facilitate businesses to diversify export products, the agricultural sector is actively building growing area codes for raw material areas, tracing the origin of agricultural, forestry and fishery products according to regulations. Relevant sectors and units of the province guide businesses to effectively take advantage of signed trade agreements, seek and expand export markets. With the efforts of departments, sectors, units, localities and the efforts of production and business units, the export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products is expected to improve in the third and fourth quarters, completing the set target in 2023.
