At approximately 4:45 PM, an excavator demolished a section of the retaining wall on the left side of the landslide area (viewed from the valley below) in alley 36, Hoang Hoa Tham Street, Ward 10, Da Lat City. A large amount of soil and rocks spilled down, burying houses and villas that had already been damaged by the incident two days earlier.

Authorities mobilized two excavators to clear the debris. In the alley where the incident occurred, local authorities evacuated 10 households and 15 workers to safety; the area was also cordoned off.

Speaking to VnExpress , Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Vice Chairman of the Da Lat City People's Committee, said that due to the impact of the previous landslide, the concrete wall on the left side had cracked and was hanging precariously, posing a risk of collapse, so the authorities proactively took action to ensure safety.

"If there is no heavy rain tonight, tomorrow the city will proactively demolish the adjacent wall to relieve the load and reduce pressure on the landslide area, as directed by the Provincial People's Committee," Mr. Son said.

Early two mornings ago, a section of the retaining wall at a construction site on Hoang Hoa Tham Street collapsed. Thousands of cubic meters of earth and rocks cascaded down, damaging and burying three 3-4 story houses and temporary shelters, killing two people.

According to the Lam Dong Department of Construction, the landslide occurred due to heavy rains over several days, and the large volume of soil piled behind the retaining wall caused it to lose its load-bearing capacity, leading to the landslide. The affected embankment had been completed about a year ago according to a permit issued by the Da Lat City People's Committee. The total length of the embankment in the documents is 381 m, with a height of 13.4 m (divided into three levels from 4 to 4.7 m).

The landslide affected an area of over 2,100 square meters, owned by four households. At the time of the incident, the developer was backfilling the land to create a level surface for construction. The collapsed section of the embankment ran along the construction boundary for approximately 29 meters. The remaining embankment has several cracks on the surface, posing a risk of further landslides.

Today, the Chairman of the Da Lat City People's Committee, Dang Quang Tu, issued a document requesting that the leaders of the Urban Management Department, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Land Registration Office branch not leave the locality. These officials were also requested to strictly comply with summonses and provide complete files and documents to the investigating agency regarding matters related to the landslide.
