Da Nang: 220 billion VND bridge rusts before completion.
TPO - After numerous delays, the Tam Tien bridge and access road project, with a total investment of 220 billion VND in Da Nang, remains unfinished. Many components have been left exposed to the elements for a long time, causing the steel to rust. Da Nang city leaders have issued urgent directives to expedite the project's progress.

The Tam Tien bridge project, connecting the Tam Tien and Tam Xuan 1 areas in the former Nui Thanh district of Quang Nam province (now Tam Xuan commune, Da Nang city), was approved in May 2019 with a total investment of approximately 220 billion VND. The project, spanning over 4 km, is invested in by the People's Committee of Nui Thanh District (formerly), with Thanh Tung Co., Ltd. as the contractor. Construction began in December 2020 and is expected to be completed in September 2022. The Tam Tien Bridge spans the Truong Giang River, measuring 358 meters in length with 9 spans. Upon completion, the project will connect National Highway 1A with the Vo Chi Cong road, forming the main transportation axis for Tam Xuan commune and the eastern area. The project is expected to facilitate travel and trade between neighboring regions, support investment attraction, serve rescue and relief efforts during the rainy and stormy season, and promote local socio-economic development.
However, contrary to initial expectations, the multi-billion VND project has been repeatedly delayed and remains in a state of disarray and incompleteness for many years.
According to authorities, the project was implemented using a method of simultaneous construction and land compensation and clearance. However, this process encountered many difficulties and obstacles, leading to repeated interruptions and delays in construction.
Despite numerous extensions, the Tam Tien Bridge project remains one of the longest-delayed construction projects in southern Da Nang. According to observations by Tien Phong newspaper reporters , the construction site is deserted. In the middle of the river, unfinished bridge piers and spans lie abandoned for years. Many sections are exposed to the elements, causing the steel to rust.
Faced with the project's sluggish progress, Da Nang city leaders have just requested accelerated construction to bring the project to completion. The Standing Committee of the Tam Xuan Commune Party Committee must decisively direct compensation and land clearance work, coordinate with the Da Nang Investment and Construction Project Management Board for Transportation and Agriculture Projects and relevant units to complete the handover of the remaining area before June 15th; and resume construction at the site before June 30th. In case of further delays in land handover, the Secretary of the Party Committee and the Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Xuan Commune will be held responsible.
