On October 10, Da Nang Hospital announced that it had activated the "internal red alert" procedure, mobilizing interdisciplinary teams to successfully rescue an 18-year-old female patient in critical condition due to a traffic accident.
Patient TNPU (18 years old, residing in Ba Na commune, Da Nang city) was transferred to Da Nang Hospital by the 115 Emergency Center in a lethargic state, with pale skin and mucous membranes, abdominal distension, chest and abdominal pain, deformed left arm, unmeasurable blood pressure, and undetectable peripheral pulse.
Urgent ultrasound results showed that the patient had a large amount of blood in the abdomen.
Determining this to be a critical emergency, the hospital immediately activated the "internal red alert" procedure, taking the patient straight to the operating room with a diagnosis of multiple injuries, including closed abdominal trauma, closed chest trauma, left arm fracture, and head and facial trauma.
Teams of doctors from many specialties such as anesthesia, resuscitation, gastrointestinal surgery, thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, urology and trauma surgery were urgently mobilized to coordinate emergency care and surgery in parallel.
Specialist Doctor Tran Van Nghia (Digestive Surgery Department, Da Nang Hospital) said that when opening the abdomen, it was discovered that the patient had a grade 4 spleen rupture, grade 2 liver injury, grade 1 left kidney injury, ruptured stomach, small intestine and colon, and blood in the abdomen.
The team performed a spleen resection, liver suture to stop bleeding, wedge gastrectomy, and resection of the small intestine and colon using a Stapler to quickly stop bleeding and shorten surgery time.
The surgery lasted nearly 5 hours, performed under conditions of both resuscitation and emergency surgery to save the patient's life. During the surgery, the patient was transfused with 10 units of blood and blood products, and high doses of vasopressors were used to maintain hemodynamics.
According to specialist doctor Ha Phuoc Hoang, Deputy Head of the Anesthesia and Resuscitation Department, the decisive factor for the success of an emergency is the timely activation of the "red alert" procedure, effective and precise coordination between specialist teams and the extensive professional experience of the medical team.
After surgery, the patient was treated intensively in the surgical intensive care unit. After 10 days of treatment, the patient's health improved significantly and he was transferred to the digestive surgery department for further monitoring.
Currently, the patient is awake, eating normally, has stable vital signs and has been discharged from the hospital./.
