Da Nang strives to attract semiconductor chip businesses

In recent times, Da Nang has made efforts to attract businesses in the semiconductor industry to the locality to invest, develop and contribute to the overall development.

At present, Da Nang has identified semiconductor chips as one of the important economic drivers and prioritized calling for investment and development. In recent times, Da Nang has proactively implemented many domestic and international programs and projects to build infrastructure, develop human resources, and gradually form

In particular, the People's Council of Da Nang City has approved many preferential policies to attract investors, experts and engineers to work in the locality. At the same time, Da Nang has also proposed the Government and the National Assembly to issue specific mechanisms and policies to create favorable conditions for the development of the semiconductor microchip sector.

It is noted that Da Nang is gradually building a model to connect the microchip industry with the Free Trade Zone, the International Financial Center and digital economic sectors. Therefore, this locality has also focused on training. In the past two years, universities have implemented a specialized program in semiconductor microchips, enrolling about 1,500 students.

According to Mr. Le Quang Dam - General Director of Marvell Technology Vietnam, Da Nang has many advantages and potentials to develop the semiconductor field, not only developing internal resources, expanding cooperation with other technology centers in the country but also connecting deeply with countries around the world . This person commented that the accompanying support of the government is an important factor to help businesses feel secure in long-term development.

"Developing high-quality human resources is the foundation to promote sustainability, creating a bigger breakthrough for Da Nang in its journey to affirm its position in the field of semiconductors," said Mr. Dam.

Similarly, Mr. Tran Dang Hoa - Chairman of FPT IS (FPT Group) said that Vietnam is emerging as a new destination in the context of global supply chain shifts. He believes that Vietnam's advantage is its human resources and high-quality talents who are joining hands to contribute to the Vietnamese semiconductor industry.

"Da Nang currently possesses all the conditions to be a leader in the semiconductor field, with close coordination in the 3-house model (state - school - business)," said Mr. Hoa.

Local determination

At the recent workshop, Mr. Luong Nguyen Minh Triet - Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City said that since the beginning of 2025, the locality has issued a Project to develop the field of semiconductor microchips and artificial intelligence, thereby determining the goal by 2030 to make Da Nang one of the top 3 centers in the country in microchip design and artificial intelligence application. Also according to Mr. Triet, Da Nang will form a network to train high-quality human resources and an innovation ecosystem in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence industry.

In particular, focus on developing at least 5,000 high-quality human resources in the semiconductor field. In parallel, at least 30 design enterprises, 2 packaging enterprises and at least 5 startups in the semiconductor field will be established.

According to Mr. Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, the microchip – semiconductor ecosystem in Da Nang has made remarkable progress. Specifically, from the initial 8 enterprises, Da Nang has now attracted 25 enterprises operating in the fields of design, testing and packaging.

"This is the result of a methodical strategy on four aspects: clear policy orientation, gradually invested infrastructure, well-trained human resources, and an attractive and transparent investment environment," said Mr. Triet.

Recently, in Da Nang, the Fab-Lab Project for Advanced Packaging Technology Production was launched with a total investment of more than 1,800 billion VND. The project is divided into two main areas: the lab area (Focusing on research and development of new packaging technologies such as Fan-out Wafer Level Packaging (FOWLP), 2. 2.5D/3D IC, Silicon Interposer and Silicon-Bridge) and the Fab area (performing trial production on real wafers, with advanced equipment such as lithography (photolithography), wafer bonding and international standard measurement and testing systems). Accordingly, the project aims to reach a capacity of 10 million products per year, serving domestic and foreign markets.

Mr. Nguyen Bao Anh - Co-founder, CEO of VSAP LAB Joint Stock Company (Project Investor) said that with the Lab-Fab model - integrating research (lab), commercial production (fab) has been proven effective in advanced countries such as Singapore, Taiwan (China), South Korea and the United States. This will be the core foundation to build self-reliance capacity, promote the national microchip and artificial intelligence ecosystem, opening up the dream of Vietnam being listed on the world high-tech map.

"The project is not simply a laboratory, it is the launch pad of a cutting-edge industry, where semiconductor chips will gradually be produced by the hands, intelligence and mettle of Vietnamese people. In which, Da Nang can completely become the "Hsinchu" of Vietnam," he said.
