Lots of room for tourism development

After the merger, Da Nang City converges special tourism resources: from world cultural heritages such as Hoi An and My Son, Cu Lao Cham World Biosphere Reserve, Ngu Hanh Son scenic area, Ba Na tourist area, Son Tra peninsula, to Pomu primeval forest, beautiful beaches such as An Bang, Tam Thanh, Non Nuoc, My Khe, Man Thai, Nam O...

All of these create a potential "treasure" for developing types of tourism such as eco-tourism, cultural tourism, island tourism and especially experiential tourism.

The new Da Nang city also becomes the only locality in the country with two international airports: Da Nang and Chu Lai. Tien Sa port is being planned to be converted into a tourist port, while the international cruise port in An Hoa (Nui Thanh) is also being promoted for construction.

These factors are strong drivers for developing tourism infrastructure, shortening travel time and expanding connectivity with international tourism centers in the region.

Mr. Dang Manh Phuoc, Director of The Outbox Company (a company providing solutions for the tourism and hotel industry) believes that Da Nang city has a large international tourist market in terms of scale and diverse in structure, and can become a "mega-brand" that can meet the diverse needs of tourists.

Notably, increasing destination value creates opportunities to increase length of stay, spending and multi-experience of tourists, diversifying products by combining the same destination values between the two previous localities.

“Combining the destination values of the two localities including modernity, urban heritage, indigenous culture; a richer tourism product portfolio including MICE tourism (events, conferences combined with tourism), eco-tourism, culture - heritage...

Diversifying customer segments also creates opportunities to expand potential tourist segments, reach mid- to high-end segments more effectively, reduce market dependence and ensure market development goals in terms of quantity and quality of tourists.

In addition, merging the two localities brings the opportunity to elevate the brand position of the two destinations from a purely recreational resort and community culture into a fully integrated tourist destination brand with multiple layers of experience, meeting both short-term and long-term tourism and entertainment needs...", Mr. Phuoc analyzed.

Over the years, the successful organization of festivals and major events has helped Da Nang become one of the preferred locations for organizing important national and international events.

Notably, Da Nang is becoming a destination for golfers as it continuously hosts many major golf events such as the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang or the Asian Golf Tourism Convention...

After the merger, Da Nang owns international-class golf courses including the following golf courses: Legend Da Nang Golf Resort (2 courses: Nicklaus and Norman), Ba Na Hills Golf Club, BRG Da Nang Golf Resort; in Quang Nam, there are golf courses: Vinpearl Golf Nam Hoi An (Binh Duong commune, Thang Binh district), Hoiana Shores Golf Club (Binh Duong commune, Thang Binh district) and Montgomerie Links Vietnam (Dien Ngoc commune, Dien Ban district).

Mr. Cao Tri Dung, Chairman of the Da Nang City Tourism Association, acknowledged that Da Nang is expected to become a golf tourism center, a new destination for golfers around the world, especially in Asia, when the golf product ecosystem is extremely rich with high-class, quality golf courses designed by famous golfers.

These golf courses are very conveniently located, close to the airport, convenient for travel; high quality golf course infrastructure and good maintenance, reasonable cost; accompanying services: hotels, restaurants, shopping, entertainment, quite good...

Synchronously deploy tourism development solutions

According to Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, based on resources, tourism infrastructure, existing service systems and planning approved by the Government, Da Nang continues to move towards sustainable tourism development.

The tourism industry focuses resources on implementing three breakthroughs to promote the city's tourism development, including: breakthroughs in tourism products; breakthroughs in promoting market expansion, flight routes, and tourism demand stimulation; breakthroughs in service quality and quality of human resources for tourism.

At the same time, deploy the planning and key development orientation of the industry according to the roadmap: Da Nang city tourism development plan in 2025; night-time economic development plan, inland waterway tourism development plan, culinary development plan into tourism products and key projects and plans approved by the city according to the roadmap...

The industry focuses on researching the market and tourist trends to promote and advertise in the right focus; promote flights to Qatar, Australia, Osaka (Japan), Indonesia, increase new flights from India and CIS countries, etc.; implement stimulus programs to attract visitors, stimulate demand and maintain flights. Develop, announce and organize the application of the "high quality" criteria set in tourism activities/services in the city.

Continuing the development orientation, by 2045, Da Nang strives to be one of the centers of high-class, green, smart, eco-tourism and sea-based resort tourism, and to organize international conferences and festival events. In particular, focusing on the combination of high-class resort tourism, eco-tourism and cultural and experiential tourism... in the direction of exploiting the region's unique strengths, creating more diverse and rich new tourism products.

Towards a regional and international tourist center

The new Da Nang has great potential for tourism development, meeting the rapid changes in consumer trends and the increasing demands of tourists.

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Trung Luong, former Deputy Director of the Institute of Tourism Research, emphasized that in the long term, Da Nang needs to reposition its development vision with the goal of becoming a national tourism center, aiming at the region and the world.

In particular, developing marine tourism associated with the marine economy will be a strategic direction. Orientation to 2030, vision to 2050, the city needs to establish its role as a “heritage tourism destination” combined with the model of “super city of heritage - events - innovation”.

An important highlight is the reorganization of tourism development space. The three proposed value axes include: the coastal axis (from My Khe - Non Nuoc - An Bang to Tam Thanh - Ha My), the cultural heritage axis (Ngu Hanh Son - Hoi An - My Son) and the natural heritage axis (Son Tra - Cu Lao Cham - Tay Giang - Sao La and elephant conservation areas). These will be the main corridors in tourism development, connecting typical destinations and creating an "inter-regional tourism ecosystem".

In addition, planning or adjusting national tourist areas such as Son Tra, Ba Na and Cu Lao Cham is necessary to ensure sustainable development. In particular, developing the night-time economy associated with free trade zones is also considered a strategic factor in diversifying products and extending the tourism value chain.

Mr. Cao Tri Dung also said that it is necessary to soon adjust the master plan for tourism development in a sustainable, modern direction and with the tourist experience at the center. The new plan must be accompanied by a direction for reasonable resource allocation between regions, promoting community and ecological tourism in addition to high-end resort tourism.

“It is indispensable to invest heavily in transport infrastructure: upgrading Da Nang International Airport, improving inter-regional road connections, developing the coastal road system and expanding international flights. Good infrastructure not only helps increase service capacity but also acts as a lever to attract investment and extend the length of stay of tourists,” Mr. Dung emphasized.
